Head Coach and NBA Hall of Famer, Chris Mullin, finally has his alma mater over the .500 mark at 8-7, but it might be short-lived as the St. John’s Red Storm face #10 Creighton.

Creighton Bluejays vs St. John's Red Storm

Out For Blood

The Creighton Blue Jays had played a perfect season thus far up until their last game as they suffered their first loss of the season in an 80-70 loss to #1 Villanova.

While there’s no shame in losing to the top team in the nation, it still register's as a loss on Creighton’s resume and they’ll look to come back strong against inferior competition in the form of the Red Storm. Creighton has victories over Wisconsin and N.C. State earlier in the season and St.John’s should have their hands full in this game.

Marcus Foster leads a high-powered Creighton offense which averages 88 points per game on 53.7% shooting from the field and 43% from 3 point territory. Creighton does lack free throw shooting efficiency, but that might not come into play here and they’re also an average rebounding squad at best, snatching 35 boards per game.

What To Expect

Look for Foster, who is averaging 19 points per game to get his points against St. John’s. Foster was quite effective against the best team in the country as he scored 22 points against the Wildcats and all of his missed shots came from beyond the arc. St. John’s can’t measure up to Creighton where talent is concerned, but with that said, Chris Mullin will have his team ready, looking to pick off of a vulnerable Creighton squad who recently suffered their first loss of the season.

As for St. John’s they’re coming off of 3 consecutive wins and one of those victories coming against a top 25 team in Butler, therefore the Red Storm will be very confident coming into this game.

The freshman duo of Shamorie Ponds (17.7 points, 5.3 rebounds, and 3.4 assists) and Marcus LoVett ( 16.6 points, 4.1 assists, 3.9 rebounds) could present problems for the Blue Jays as they’ve both had fantastic starts to their collegiate careers. LoVett is coming off of an outstanding offense game in a 79-73 victory over DePaul while Ponds played strong defense with 4 thefts in that game. I expect St. John’s to come out strong and put Creighton to the test.

Take the points with the Red Storm.
