A busy day in basketball sees plenty of action taking place in both college and pro ball. We are hoping we've found the college basketball betting value with our two picks tonight.
When it rains, it pours. Last night's picks both looked destined to be winners, yet Villanova and Rutgers poured in 82 points in the second half to kill our UNDER, before one of the worst beats in college all year took place. If you watched the Kansas State game live, you know what we're talking about.
Moving on, there's a lot of great games on tap tonight, so let's breakdown the NCAA Basketball odds boards to see where the value lies.
Texas Longhorns vs. TCU Horned Frogs
The Longhorns have still yet to win a true road game this season, yet we're still selecting them to cover tonight. Have we gone crazy?
Perhaps, but if there's any team Texas can outlast away from home it's this TCU squad. The Horned Frogs, that aberration against Kansas aside, have been awful this season.
That's been especially true offensively, as TCU is averaging 53.1 PPG on 39.2 percent shooting on the year. Over their last five they've scored at a 51.2 PPG clip, while allowing 68.0 PPG on 46.2 percent shooting.
Now, the Longhorns haven't been that much better, but they have at least started to show signs of life since Myck Kabongo returned. He made an immediate impact in the win over Iowa State and we see Texas finishing the season playing much better ball because of him.
Kabongo's return has beefed up a backcourt that already featured Sheldon McClellan, Julien Lewis and Javan Felix. Ioannis Papaetrou has also been stepping up his game of late, helping the Longhorns out on the glass, where they share a distinct advantage (35.7 RPG vs. 29.2 RPG) over TCU.
The Horned Frogs are a dreadful 2-8 ATS on their home floor this season and we simply don't think they'll be score enough points here to cover. Texas may be in the midst of a down year, but they're still the far more talented team, and they are the ones worth backing with your college basketball picks in this situation.
NCAA Basketball Pick: Texas Longhorns -4.5
Florida Gators vs. Missouri Tigers
Our second play comes with a substantial amount of risk, as we like the Tigers to cover at home against Florida.
We all know what happened when Missouri visited Gainesville a month ago – the Gators were dominant from the opening tip en-route to a 83-52 win. Florida shot 59.3 percent from the floor, while the Tigers connected on just 32.7 percent of their shots.
So why take Missouri here?
For one, the Tigers have Laurence Bowers back. Even though he's struggled to re-gain his form before going down with injury, many see Bowers as the heart and soul of the team, and his presence alongside Alex Oriakhi should help keep Erik Murphy and Patric Young in check. We certainly didn't see it last month, but the Tigers actually match up well with the Gators – Phil Pressey is capable of going off on any given night, while Keion Bell has been one of the hottest players since SEC play began.
Florida is also missing Will Yuguette, a key piece who was one of the best defenders on the team. He had 13 points and six boards in the first meeting with Missouri.
Of course it's risky going against a Gators team that's 8-4 ATS in games outside of their own building this season, but the Tigers have still yet to lose at home (14-0 SU) and you know they're going to come out fired up here. We're taking the points.
