The California Golden Bears and Stanford Cardinal will close out their 2013-14 regular-season series Wednesday, as they prepare to meet at Haas Pavilion in the Bay Area. Where should we be placing our money for our NCAA Basketball picks?

Let’s take a closer look at the college basketball odds for this Pac-12 Conference matchup, with the opening tip scheduled for 9:00 p.m. ET on ESPN2.

Falling into a pattern

Stanford has alternated wins and losses over its last five games, as it looks to build off its 76-70 victory over the Arizona State Sun Devils as 5.5-point home favorites last Saturday, while going OVER the betting total for the fourth time in that span.

The Cardinal have four of five probable starters averaging in double figures, with junior guard Chasson Randle leading the way at 18.8 points a contest.

Over the last two-plus seasons, the program is 4-5 SUATS as road underdogs of 3.5 to 6 points, with the OVER going 5-4 in that situation.

Coming off a huge win

California may suffer a bit of a letdown after capturing its first ever victory over a No. 1 team on campus, as it picked up a 60-58 win over the Arizona Wildcats as six-point underdogs last Saturday.

The Golden Bears also return four starters from a season ago—a group that supplies 65.9 percent of the team’s point production.

College basketball handicappers will find that the team is 3-2 SUATS as home favorites of 3.5 to 6 points since the 2011-12 campaign.

Scoring is up

The Cardinal are averaging 76.0 points per game this season—a figure that’s up from 69.8 a contest through 21 games a year ago.

Stanford’s starting lineup accounts for 86.1 percent of the team’s scoring during the 2013-14 campaign.

Cobbs is the real deal

The Golden Bears have one of the best floor generals in the country, as point guard Justin Cobbs was named the Pac-12 Player of the Week on Monday after averaging 20.0 points and 5.0 assists in two games last week.

Cobbs has averaged 14.8 points and 5.2 assists in six career games in this rivalry.

Prediction

I’m going to recommend that readers play the total as one of their college basketball picks, as the UNDER is 6-1 in California’s last seven home games with a total of 140 to 144.5.
