State Farm Championship Classic#7 Kansas Jayhawks vs. #1 Duke Blue Devils

Huge Matchup At MSG

The Duke Blue Devils, who remain the top team in the nation after facing two relatively easy opponents, get a major test as they face a Kansas Jayhawks (0-1) team which is coming off of a tough 103-99 loss to the Indiana Hoosiers in overtime of their season opener. Duke is a modest 2.5 point betting favorite as Kansas is already battle-tested this season while the Blue Devils face their first legitimate test. Oddsmakers are right on the money with the placement of odds of this neutral site battle.

Naismith College Player of the Year?

Duke has a legitimate contender for that award as junior Grayson Allen is a prolific basketball player that can do many things well. This is a player that will shoot over 40% from beyond the arc, nail over 80% of his free throws, score over 20 points per game (for a 2nd consecutive year), dish the rock with ease, and get others involved, play outstanding defense, and grab some timely rebounds. That's a full and complete resume for the next level and look for Allen to be a key player in every matchup this season.

He's coming off of a 25 point, 10 rebounds,4 assists, and 3 steals effort against Grand Canyon in a Duke 96-61 victory. Although Grand Canyon doesn't provide much resistance, these are still impressive numbers and the betting public and fans alike, will be seeing effort from Allen like this all season long. Look for Allen to have a big game in a big spot against Kansas.

Another player to keep an eye on in this game is freshman Frank Jackson. Jackson comes into this game averaging 19.5 points per game and this will be his first legitimate test as a collegiate player. Duke also need's his offense while senior forward, Amile Jefferson, man's the boards. Jefferson averaged a double-double last season and he presents a major presence on the inside along with sophomore Chase Jeter (7 ppg, 5 rpg). This is another fundamentally sound Duke team with a lot of talent and it will be difficult for Kansas to take down the top team in the nation.

Frank Mason III

With Kansas' top 2 scorers gone from last season, this open's up to the door for the senior guard, Frank Mason III. Mason III is coming off of a monster game in Kansas' disappointing overtime loss to Indiana. He finished up with 30 points, 9 assists, and 7 rebounds. While I don't expect Mason III to put up similar numbers against Duke, he will need to bring his "A-Game" or the Jayhawks will be starting the season at 0-2.

Duke has more talent and has been in these situations so many times. Duke is the NCAA basketball pick tonight.
