Our NCAAB capper has gone 8-3 the last three days with his conference tournament selections. He’s isolated 2 underdog picks on Saturday & provides us with an insightful perspective on those contests.
Georgia Bulldogs (21-10) vs. Arkansas (25-7)
The #2 (Arkansas) and #3 (Georgia) seeds in the SEC Tournament will square in one of today’s Semifinal games. The opening tip in Nashville, Tennessee is slated for 3:30 PM ET. According to the NCAA Basketball odds at Bovada, the Arkansas Razorbacks are a 3.0 point favorite. These teams met just once this season, and Arkansas came away with a 79-75 road win in Athens, Georgia.
Razorbacks less than Sharp
Arkansas is coming off an 80-72 win on Friday over the #10 seed Tennessee Volunteers in the SEC Quarterfinals. It didn’t come without any drama. The Razorbacks nearly squandered a huge 20-point lead in that contest, and were able to hold off the Volunteers with some stellar free throw shooting in the closing minutes. Arkansas is far from playing at a high level over their last five contests, going just 3-2, and allowing opponents to score an average of 77.2 points per game.
Bulldogs playing winning Basketball
The Georgia Bulldogs will enter the conference tournament semifinals this afternoon with a fair amount of momentum. The Bulldogs have gone 5-1 SU&ATS in their last six games, allowed those opponents to score an average of only 62.7 points per contest, and held them to a paltry 37.8% shooting from the field. As a matter of fact, their only loss in that sequence came versus undefeated and top ranked Kentucky 80-72. Georgia turned in a workmanlike performance during Friday’s 74-62 quarterfinal win over South Carolina.
In their first meeting of the season versus Arkansas, Georgia allowed the Razorbacks to shoot 51% from the field, and they were dominated in the rebounding department by a wide 40-25 margin. Georgia has a +9.7 rebound per game differential during their previous four games, and I already alluded to their recent stellar defensive play. So they’ve pretty much cleaned up those two areas of deficiencies that plagued them in that loss. I’m forecasting that Georgia will revenge that earlier defeat at the hands of Arkansas for one of my college basketball picks on Saturday.

Oregon (25-8) vs. Arizona (30-3)
The PAC-12 Championship Game on Saturday night will feature by far the two hottest teams in the conference. Arizona enters tonight having won their last ten games in a row, and covered in eight of those contests. The Oregon Ducks are 7-0 SU&ATS during their previous seven games, and they’re coming off a 67-64 win as a 6.5 point underdog versus nationally ranked Utah in Friday’s semifinal game.
Lopsided Head-to-Head Meetings
If you limit yourself to just looking at what transpired in the two games this season between these teams, then you certainly can label the Arizona Wildcats as a proverbial lock. After all, Arizona defeating Oregon by scores of 90-56 and 80-62. They also held a decisive 74-47 rebounding advantage over the Ducks in those two wins. However, it must be noted, that both of those games took place in January, and Oregon has shown considerable improvement over the past six weeks. As a matter of fact, since that 90-56 loss at Arizona on January 28th, Oregon has gone 11-1.
At the end of the day, Arizona is clearly the better team in this matchup, and may be in line for a #1 seed in the NCAA Tournament with a win tonight. However, I like the value on the underdog in this game, and that’s going to be one of my college basketball picks on Saturday.
