Virginia has struggled on the road in ACC play, and the Cavaliers face a tough away tilt on Tuesday when they are slight favorites on the NCAA basketball odds at Clemson.

Virginia Cavaliers vs Clemson Tigers
From where I sit, you could take 68 teams from one media outlet's list or another, throw their names in a hat and make the bracket for this year's NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament a blind draw. It's been that kind of year.

The Virginia Cavaliers are no doubt happy that won't be the case since they currently own one of the No. 1 seeds at both USA Today and by Joe Lunardi at ESPN. Of course, any team's hold on No. 1 seed at the moment is tenuous at best, and the Cavaliers know there's plenty of time left to fall down the bracket with plenty of ACC teams that would love to send them that direction, starting with the Clemson Tigers.

Clemson would certainly love to do just that in its final home game of the season. The Tigers will honor their four seniors prior to the 7 PM (ET) tip at Bon Secours Wellness Arena, and then those seniors such as Jordan Roper and Landry Nnoko will try and help their side to an upset as 5 point home 'dogs. 5Dimes is listing 125½ for the total.

5 Of Last 6 At Clemson Were 'Under' Winners
The season's first meeting at Charlottesville back in mid-January saw Virginia climb out of an early ACC funk with a 69-62 victory. Several times during the first half, the Cavs tried to pull away only for Clemson to refuse to make it easy on Tony Bennett's bunch. It was the same story in the final 20 minutes, the clubs deadlocked at 35-all before Virginia game itself some breathing room with a 13-4 run

Clemson backers went home with the win on the NCAA basketball odds boards that had Virginia 10 point chalk. Malcolm Brogdon paced the Cavaliers with 20 points, one of four Virginia players to score in double-digits. Jaron Blossomgame topped all with 23 for the Tigers, and a key difference in the battle was Virginia outscoring Clemson 15-6 at the charity stripe.

The victory gave the Cavaliers a 72-52 lead in the series that dates back to 1935.  It has been a closer rivalry of late than you might think, that January win giving Virginia a 6-5 lead in the last 11 clashes. The meeting in Greenville last season went to UVa by a 63-58 count, pushing a 5 point spread in the process. That one had enough to get past a low 109½ total after the previous five at Clemson all finished 'under.'

Cavs Off Fine Performance vs. UNC
Virginia (22-6 straight up, 13-13 against the spread) had dropdunnoped three of four before beating Clemson in January, all three defeats taking place on the road. The Cavaliers used that win over Clemson as a springboard for a 7-game win streak that was finally snapped about two weeks ago in a tough 1-point setback at Duke. Two games later came yet another road loss, Virginia's fifth in eight ACC road affairs, this time by three at Miami eight days ago.

The Cavaliers bounced back from that defeat with a nice 79-74 win Saturday at home vs. North Carolina. Favored by 2½, Virginia relied on Brogdon's 26 points to pace the offense while playing some trademark defense with six steals and five blocks. The final had plenty to go 'over' a 136½ point total, stopping a run of seven consecutive 'under' winners in UVa matches.

Clemson (16-12 SU, 14-9-1 ATS) was off to a 5-1 start in the ACC before losing at Virginia on January 19. That defeat sent the Tigers into a rut with a 4-5 record in the nine ensuing games, topped by road losses at North Carolina State and Georgia Tech a week ago, each as small road pups. Three of their last four home games fell short of the totals.

When series and recent team trends are this in line, it's difficult for me not to play that way. Mark my free NCAA basketball picks on the 'under' tonight. Be sure to also check out our other top value picks of the day.
