The ACC/Big Ten Challenge continues to give us great matchups, and we've got a free college basketball pick for Wednesday's skirmish between Purdue and Louisville.

When the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament committee gets together next March to line the Field of 64 up, Wednesday's matchup between the Purdue Boilermakers and Louisville Cardinals will come up in discussions at one point or another.

Both schools will be part of the Big Dance next spring, and right now they are easy 4-7 seed picks. Who ends up higher could ride on the outcome of this clash, which tips at KFC Yum! Center a little after 7:15 PM (ET) and finds Louisville a 5½ point favorite after BetOnline started the spread a point higher. The scoreboard tally went out around 140 but was quickly bet down to 136½.

Before this annual challenge got underway, the ACC won all six games against Big Ten schools. It's a level 4-4 so far this week with the Big Ten needing to take three of four tonight for its 3rd-straight challenge triumph.

Cards Coming Off 1st Defeat

Matt Painter and the Boilermakers still just have that one close loss to Villanova a little less than three weeks ago, just missing a cover with the 2½ they were getting at home in the 79-76 setback. Purdue has bounced back with four consecutive dubyas, including winning the Cancun Challenge with chalk covers over Utah State and Auburn plus last Saturday's sluggish effort vs. New Jersey Tech, a game that never made it to the NCAA basketball odds card.

Louisville started with five outright wins and four covers, but all that came to an end this past Friday when Rick Pitino's troupe lost to Baylor in the Battle 4 Atlantis Championship. The Cardinals appeared to be skating to an easy win over the Bears in building a 22-point lead and still ahead by 12 with 10 minutes to go. Baylor then took control while Louisville couldn't buy a bucket in the 66-63 final favoring the Bears, the Cardinals laying 3½ at the closing bell.

The Ville Looking To Take Down Purdue For 1st Time In Over 20 Years

Purdue leads this series with an 11-5 record, stretching that advantage by winning the last three meetings. It has been a while since they last got together at the Wooden Tradition in Indianapolis nearly nine years ago, and tonight's tango is their first clash in the ACC/Big Ten Challenge. The Boilermakers built a comfortable 1st-half lead as 2½ point, underdogs, eventually taking a 67-59 decision that just fell short of a 127½ mark on the scoreboard. Purdue holds a 4-3 edge in Louisville get-togethers.

Louisville's backcourt against Purdue's frontcourt is the easy explanation for how they stack up. The Boilermakers need to show early they can handle constant harassment from the Cardinals and dominate the defensive glass to open up more transition opportunities, and I'm not sure Purdue can. I'm also not sure either side can reach the 70 point plateau, which us why my free college basketball pick is on the 'under' before it drops even more.
