We have decided to focus on the ACC tonight, and we have found two matchups that appear to hold great value for our NCAA Basketball picks. Where have we decided to look, and where are we laying our money.

North Carolina vs. #2 Duke

This has been a very unusual basketball season to say the least. Number 1 teams seem to get knocked off on a regular basis, and teams like Kansas are getting beaten by teams that are winless in their conference.

Duke had a close call in its last game against Boston College, where the Blue Devils barely skated by with a 62-61 victory over a very poor BC team. Boston College was leading in the final minutes, but Duke does what a winner does, as they found a way to win.

The Shane Larkin Show

Reggie Bullock was the only player that showed up for the Heels in their contest against Miami. As Miami would connect on their 3-pointers, so would Bullock, but it wasn’t enough as Canes’ guard, Shane Larkin, stole the show with 18 points and 9 assists. This game was never in doubt and it showed how powerful Miami is and how pitiful that North Carolina is.

Duke always gets the respect, and NCAA basketball odds are listing them as a 10.5 point betting favorite. Given the way the Heels looked in their last outing, there is no reason for bettors to expect North Carolina to pull off the upset. However, Roy Williams is a master, and the fire he has lit under his team should push them to keep it within the spread.

#3 Miami vs. Florida State

How can you not love Miami after they have handed out major beatings to two of the ACC’s legendary teams, in North Carolina and Duke? The Canes are ranked higher than they have ever been in school history, and they are gaining momentum heading into the NCAA Tournament.

The Hurricanes are a 6.5 point betting favorite on the road. Will there be a letdown against a lower level team is the question? Thus far, Miami has destroyed ACC competition and is in control of the conference, but sometimes teams can get caught looking ahead to major matchups, and this is where weaker teams can catch them off guard.

Beat down in South Beach

A hurricane ran through Coral Gables, Florida on Saturday, but the only people that felt the effect were the North Carolina basketball players, coaches, and their fans.

North Carolina only got 26 points out of their starters while Miami shot 57.7% from 3 point range. Leading scorer Durand Scott got his swag back and Shane Larkin took his talents to another level. If Scott performs similarly against Florida State, it will be lights out for the Seminoles, regardless of the venue.

Down in the Dumps!

If you’re Michael Snaer and the Florida State Seminoles, you can’t be thinking NCAA Tournament after a 71-46 loss to a Wake Forest team that’s below .500. The Noles would basically have to run the table or at least come close to it. A victory over Miami would be huge, but it doesn’t seem likely.

Wake Forest was a team that lost 6 of 7 games coming into their meeting with Florida State and the Seminoles could manage just 46 points on just 32.6% shooting from the field. If Florida State is to have any chances of making this a game, they must cut down on turnovers and protect the glass. They’re coming off of a -20 ratio on the boards in their last effort and that won’t cut it against Kenny Kadji and Reggie Johnson.

There will be no let down here for Miami. This team is possibly the best team in the nation.
