#7 Georgetown (21-4, 11-3) at Connecticut (19-7, 9-5)
The Big East Conference is packed full of talent, with at least 7 teams going to this year’s NCAA Tournament. The UConn Huskies might wank 6th in the conference, but they have had an outstanding season as they try for their 20th win of the season to help secure their spot in “The Big Dance”.
Connecticut will have the Gampel Pavillion crowd behind them as the top team in the Big East, the Georgetown Hoyas, and leading scorer, Otto Porter Jr, pay a visit. Georgetown is coming off their most defining game of the season in which they defeated Syracuse on the road.
The OPJ Factor
Otto Porter Jr. is coming off one of the best performances of the season, as he posted 33 points, 8 rebounds, and 5 steals on 5 of 10 shooting from beyond the arc. Both the Orange and the Hoyas were unable to get on track offensively in this game, and Otto Porter Jr. turned the matchup into a one man show. It will be nearly impossible for “OPJ” to duplicate a performance like that, but he’ll be coming into this game full of confidence and Georgetown will have a definite edge.
The Next Kemba Walker?
Shabazz Napier is coming into this game locked and ready to go. He’s averaged 27.5 points, 4.5 rebounds, 3.5 assists, and 1.5 steals on 11 of 16 shooting from 3-point range in his last 2 games. Connecticut has also beaten teams like Syracuse, and this will by no means be a cake walk for Georgetown tonight.
NCAA Basketball odds makers have opened Georgetown as a 2.5 point betting favorite in this game with the total listed at 123.
This should be a very close game, but I’m going to lean towards the total, as I believe that the spread holds little to no value for our college basketball picks tonight. Connecticut is coming off of a 81 point performance and this game comes down to styles. There’s enough offense in this game for it to go over the total and I expect it to go OVER the total.

Virginia Tech (12-15, 3-11) at #5 Miami (22-4, 13-1)
For the second of our free picks, we head south for an ACC
battle between the Hokies and the Hurricanes.
It was bound to happen and it did; Miami finally got their heads handed to them by Wake Forest, 80-65. The ACC’s Duke Blue Devils have been beaten badly, but not by a 12-15 team.
Now, Shane Larkin and company face a Virginia Tech team that is coming off of a victory over an above .500 team in Florida State. Miami is a 16.5 point favorite and for the first time this season, but they are facing a bit of adversity themselves. How will they rebound from their massive defeat, and have the odds makers gone overboard when asking for 16.5 points?
Senior guard, Erick Green, might be seeing some NBA green when all is said and done. Green averages a whopping 25.2 points per game and has scored at least 20 points in 25 out of 27 games this season. Now that is amazing consistency, and don’t look for Miami to stop him here.
So Close to #1 Status
Being ranked number 2 before the Wake Forest game, Miami took a big hit in striving to be the top team in the nation. Regardless, they’ve dominated the ACC all season and must show the ability to bounce back from a poor defensive performance. It wasn’t so much that Miami played awful, but Wake Forest was unstoppable offensively. Look for the trio of Kadji, Scott, and Larkin to regain their momentum here. Home games always help in the ACC and this one will help here for “The U”.
Miami should win this game with some resistance. Virginia Tech is feeling good about themselves after their most recent victory while Miami might feel a bit of pressure. Take the points.
