When preparing your NCAA Tournament Picks for this Final Four contest between Michigan State & Duke, we highly recommend reading this informative betting preview article.
Storied Programs meet in the “Final Four”
The Duke Blue Devils (33-4) will meet the Michigan State Spartans (27-11) in one of the two NCAA Tournament national semifinal matchups on Saturday. This year’s “Final Four” takes place at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana. The opening tip for this contest is slated for 6:09 PM ET. Duke was the top seed in the South, and defeated #2 seed Gonzaga in the Regional Final on Sunday. Michigan State advances out of the East where they were a #7 seed, and defeated #4 seed Louisville on Sunday in that Regional Final.
Opening Lines and Early Movement
According to a consensus of opening NCAA Tournament odds at the major sportsbooks, Duke was a 4.5 point favorite, and the total opened at 140.0. Since that time, Duke has moved to a 5.0 point favorite, and the current total is 139.0. According to Bookmaker, 71% of the early money has been wagered on Duke, and 76% of public cash has gone on the under.
Two Iconic Head Coaches
This game will pit two of modern college basketball’s most legendary coaches against each other, Tom Izzo of Michigan State, and Mike Krzyzewski of Duke.
Tom Izzo is currently the longest tenured coach in the Big 10 Conference, and has been named the national coach of the year on four separate occasions. This will be his eighth “Final Four” as the head coach at Michigan State. Under his guidance, the Spartans won the national championship in 2000, and reached the 2009 national title game before losing to North Carolina. This is the Spartans eighteenth consecutive NCAA Tournament appearance with Izzo at the helm. Since becoming the head coach at Michigan State in 1995, Izzo has an outstanding record of 494-198 (.714).
Since taking over in 1980, Mike Krzyzewski has led the Duke Blue Devils to four national championships, and twelve “Final Four” appearances. You would be hard pressed to make a case for any other coach in college basketball that comes close to his superb resume.”Coach K” as he’s affectionately known, has an overall record at Duke of 943-251 (.790).
My Early Lean
Michigan State was my dark horse selection in the East Region prior to the start of the NCAA Tournament. However, I don’t like their chances against a remaining field that includes Kentucky, Duke, and Wisconsin. Those other three participants in the 2015 “Final Four” have an incredible cumulative record of 106-7 (.938). Although, I do have an early lean for my college basketball picks on the Spartans plus the points versus Duke, but that can be subject to change later in the week.
