UAB vs. Florida Atlantic 7:00 ET
?At 7:00 pm ET, the UAB Blazers travel to S. Florida for this matchup at the FAU Arena against the Florida Atlantic Owls. Clearly, it is a contest of teams headed opposite directions. For UAB, with a very young team, has ascended smartly to a 12-4 SU record in CUSA play, trailing LA Tech by 1 game in the loss column for league supremacy. Florida Atlantic is at the bottom of the loop with a 1-15 SU record in league play which you should keep in mind when looking over the NCAA Basketball odds. A closer inspection tells us we can play the momentum of these teams with confidence.
In the off-season, Florida Atlantic hired Michael Curry as HC. The 45 year old Curry was a starter at Georgia Southern in the late 80s. He then played for 11 years in the NBA, played in Europe, was the HC of the Detroit Pistons and was the President of the NBA Players Association. With the FAU job opening, after the firing of former HC Mike Jarvis, the Owls took the risk of luring Curry to Boca Raton, where he would begin his first stint as a college HC. Needless to say, things have not proceeded as Curry had hoped. The Owls are an anemic CBKB team, averaging just 63 PPG on 42% shooting, while dealing out only 10.2 assists per game. The defense allows opponents an embarrassing 46% from the field. In addition, the Owls are badly out boarded with a -4 rebound margin. All this has translated into a record of 8-19 SU, 1-15 SU in CUSA play. Tonight, the Owls enter on an 11 game winning streak with just 3 covers (all as big road dog) to their credit. Recently on this court, they are 0-4 SU ATS, losing by 7 to Rice, 7 to N. Texas, 7 to UTEP and 15 to Texas S.A. These are all teams who are below UAB in the standings.
In an earlier meeting between these two, UAB prevailed 66-57 as 3 point home favorite. As you can see, the line has clearly swung to reflect the Blazers’ strong season and the Owls’ desire to end their misery. Credit 3rd year HC Haase, a former N. Carolina assistant, for the success! For, the Blazers are one of the youngest teams in the nation featuring just one returning starter. The 12-4 SU CUSA record is accompanied by an even more impressive 13-3 ATS mark. UAB enters on a 3-0 SU ATS run with victories over W. Kentucky, Marshall and Mid-Tenn St.
With UAB over achieving, yet fully motivated by the fact they trail LA Tech by a single game for the league lead, and Florida Atlantic having tossed the towel in what appears to be a failed Michael Curry experiment, we follow the momentum for a pointspread winner with our NCAA basketball picks, against one of our “Homeless” teams, the Florida Atlantic Owls.
