The 2016 CBKB Towel Tossers

For the period of time from late January through much of February is the time similar to late October through mid-November in CFB. It is the time when teams come to the realization that their hopes for a winning season are quickly sliding away. There may be huge efforts saved for late season rivalry games, or in the case of CBKB, the CCT. But for the most part, when these teams realize that a losng season is all but guaranteed, there are clear situations where we can make profit by playing against them. With the help of this year’s new rule changes, which shorten the clock and prevent grab-and-hold defenses, these Towel Tossers can be a greater play against than usual.

The chart below lists the 15 teams who are at the bottom of their Conference this season. They’re the true epitome of the “cellar dwellers” of CBKB. I have listed 15 teams, including their Conference, their SU record for YTD, SU record for the Conference, as well as three key ATS columns which show where the money lies this season to date. Always make sure there is value in your NCAA basketball pick, then make these plays with confidence knowing that when these teams fall behind, they have shown the propensity to “toss the towel.”

Below I will summarize the columns for you. Your first clue that these teams are tossing the towel should come with their SU YTD record, which shows that many of these teams will soon guarantee themselves a losing season. Your second clue is that none of these teams has more than two wins in the first half of the Conference season. Thirdly, the records for these teams at home are significantly below .500. If you can’t win on your home court in CBKB, it is unlikely you are going to win on the road. Finally, the last three columns are where we make our MONEY. The new rules in CBKB, as discussed above, have made it more difficult for these inferior teams to slow the game and keep competitive by doing so. Finally, we see that bad teams seldom string together a winning streak. Remember, this last column is for the YTD; it figures to be significantly worse in Conference play.

•99-222 SU…the SU record of all these teams combined, only 31% winners

•13-122 SU…these teams have won less than 10% of Conference games

•79-91 SU…the combined home record of our Towel Tossers, clearly less than 50%

•54-69 ATS…the spread record of our Towel Tossers, again notably less than 50%

•19-38 ATS…only a 33% winning percentage in role of Conference home dog

•18-37 ATS…a record of less than 33% ATS wins as double digit Conference road dog

•23-45 ATS…little better than 33% that these teams will string together wins

Each day on the CBKB card and on the NCAA basketball odds boards, the handicapper is presented with a conundrum of whether teams will bounce back or follow momentum. In the case of the above Towel Tossers, at least for the next couple weeks, expect their negative momentum to continue and for there to be few bounce back opportunities.
