Is this too low of a total to pass up a wager on 'over' the number in Saturday’s Wisconsin and Villanova game? Will the defensive prowess of both teams turn this into an ugly low scoring affair? Find out here.

  Wisconsin vs Villanova

East Region, Saturday, 2:40 pm E.T

 Game# 519-520

Wisconsin will take on top seed Villanova on Saturday at the Key Bank Center in Buffalo. The winner will move onto the “Sweet 16” next Thursday at Madison Square Garden in downtown Manhattan against either Virginia or Florida.

At this present time, March Madness odds indicate that Villanova is a 5.5 to a 6.0-point favorite. The total in this contest is anywhere from 128.0 to 129.0.

Stellar Defensive Teams

The posted total in this upcoming March Madness game is so low for good reason. What gets overlooked most regarding the success Villanova has enjoyed in recent years is how good they are defensively. Just this season alone, the Wildcats are allowing only 62.6 points per game. Additionally, despite having the athleticism to take advantage of opponents with their offensive transition game, Villanova plays at a borderline deliberate pace. That’s further proven by their moderately low 54 field goal attempts per game. In turn, they’ve limited opponents to just 56 field goal attempts and 8 offensive rebounds per game.

Granted there’s an overall quicker offensive tempo that Wisconsin has played at this season compared to years gone by. Nonetheless, the Badgers are at their best when being methodical in their half-court offense, and especially so when they’re nursing a lead late in a game. Wisconsin is allowing a mere 61.8 points per game this season, and have held opponents to an uninspiring 41.1% shooting.

 Final Thoughts and Pick

This will be only the 4th time all season long that Wisconsin enters a game as an underdog. Each of those previous 3 all went under the total. and there was a combined average of just 123.3 points scored per contest. Meanwhile, Villanova has gone under the total in 9 of its last 10 games this season when they’re a favorite of 8.5 or less, and that point spread parametemostly signifies they’re facing a quality opponent. I’m predicting a very low scoring game, and one of my March Madness picks will mirror that prediction.
