The Atlantic 10 Conference is much like the MAAC and other small conferences in which the odds makers give the home team the benefit of the doubt. Dayton's game tonight against Davidson is a good example of this as the Flyers are a mere 2.5 point road favorite despite dominating their respective conference. Is this a trap game or is Dayton the obvious pick as they appear to be?

Dayton vs Davidson "Flying High"

In my opinion, the Wildcats would need Stephen Curry to go back to college to win this game. Although Jack Gibbs (21.2 points, 4.4 assists, 4.3 rebounds) anad Peyton Aldridge (20.7 points, 7.9 rebounds, 42.8% 3-point shooting) have been a major force all season long, it hasn't equated to victories as this is a very top-heavy WIldcats team and it will take more to beat this defensive-oriented Dayton Flyers team, who are on a 7 game winning streak.

 "Top of the World"

Defense has been a huge part ot Dayton's game as they've allowed 64.7 points per game and have 8 steals per game to their credit. Although the Flyers don't get a chance to face AP Top 25 teams, this is a squad that's knocked off Rhode Island twice and along with VCU, have dominated the Atlantic 10 Conference. The betting odds here are a gift to the bettor as Dayton is the far superior squad despite the offense of Gibbs and Aldridge.

 Charles Cooke

While Dayton is a more balanced team that relies heavily on their defense, they'll need a decent amount of offensive production to win this game and senior Charles Cooke has been one of their more consistent players. Cooke has actually been a very consistent player throughout his collegiate career and would like to finish his collegiate career strong.

This is a fantastic two-way player as his defense prevents points just as much as his offense provides points. While he's not going to be a consistent 20 point point player, Cooke is averaging 16.3 points per game and is a 41.6% shooter from 3-point land.

In his last game, an 83-70 victory over George Mason, Cooke scored a pedestrian 12 points, but nailed 2 3-pointers, grabbed 5 rebounds, dished 4 assists, and had 3 steals. He's not a player that will commit many turnovers and provides the intangibles that a winning team need's. Look for Cooke to be up to the challenge as Davidson is better than their record indicates.
