Davidson Wildcats vs North Carolina Tarheels - College Basketball Pick

Davidson Wildcats

The North Carolina Tarheels have definitely recovered from their lone loss of the season, a 76-67 loss at the hands of the Indiana Hoosiers. After a 45 point blowout win over Radford, the Heels must face Stephen Curry's old school in the Davidson Wildcats. While Davidson has had a nice start to the season, they're a considerable betting underdog and could certainly use the services of Mr. Curry.

Davidson Wildcats (5-2) vs #7 North Carolina Tarheels (8-0) Just a Glitch On the Schedule

North Carolina, to me, appeared to be the best team in the country until Indiana handed them their first defeat of the season. North Carolina proceeded to prove in their next matchup that their encounter with IU was just a one-time thing as they blasted Radford 95-50. Even though the opponent was a lowly Radford squad, it's still a confidence boost and the Tarheels look to go on a long winning streak. Even though they're a considerable betting favorite against the Wildcats, Davidson is no pushover and UNC will have to bring their best to win and cover the spread in this highly anticipated matchup.

Joel Berry II Out

We can't overlook the fact that junior guard, Joel Berry II, will be out for this game and that's quite a blow as this is a player that's strong on both ends of the court.

That's 14.8 points, 4.7 assists, 3.8 rebounds, and 1.6 steals out of the lineup. The trio of Justin Jackson (15.2 points, 4.6 rebounds, 3.2 assists), Isaiah Hicks (13.4 points, 5.2 rebounds ), and double-double specialist, Kennedy Meeks (13.2 points ,10.2 rebounds), will need to pick up the slack. That said, Berry II is a very important player as he's an efficient shooter from anywhere on the court and it's a terrible loss for UNC. Can the Tarheels provide enough offense to cover the 16 point spread is the question?

"The Big 2"

I use the Arizona State Sun Devils as a barometer for where the Wildcats are at and earlier in the season, the Wildcats took care of business against the Sun Devils. They possess two big-time scorers in Jack Gibbs (23.3 points, 4.3 assists, 3.5 rebounds) and Peyton Aldridge (19.7 points, 7.3 rebounds). The ability to keep this combination in check concerns me; especially with Berry II being out of the lineup. Jack Gibbs is averaging a massive 28 points per game in his last 2 games and I think this is a great spot for Davidson to be competitive.
