I understand why this total is set so high between Davidson & California against the NCAA basketball odds. Read this betting preview that comes with my total selection for this game.

NCAA Basketball Pick: Over 155
Best Line Offered: at Heritage

NCAA Basketball odds have set this total at 155 & the spread around 9.5 favoring the home team. This is a really high total for college basketball game, but not when one of the teams is Davidson. In their 10 games this season the Wildcats have gone over this total seven times, and California should have no problem putting up points against them. This game will definitely be up-tempo and if Davidson knocks down some threes like they normally do for one of my selection I anticipate the final to be well over this current total.

Davidson Wildcats
Davidson comes in averaging 84 points per game while shooting 45.8% from the field, and allow 80 points per game on 43.8% from the field. It seems the last few years head coach Bob McKillop is finally starting to get the recognition he deserves, the guy is a great basketball coach. This season they continue to run at a torrid pace led by Jack Gibbs who is lighting up the scoreboard. Offensively they are one of the faster pace teams in the country and they love to shoot the three-pointer averaging 29.1 attempts per game which ranks ninth in the country. They are also decent at knocking those down at 34% and averaging just under 10 per game which ranks in the top 20. They are not a very big team and rely a lot on their tempo and spacing to get teams to run with them which we should see tonight. Defensively there is not much to say about Davidson because of the tempo they push their statistics are pretty bad across the board. The issue tonight could be something as simple as rebounding as the Wildcats rank as one of the worst teams in the nation in opponent total rebounds per game.  Cal averages 41.8 boards per game and ranks 24th in the country so this could lead to a lot of second chance opportunities for the Bears. California does not push the tempo like Davidson but they are an efficient scoring team and should have little trouble putting up a lot at home versus and overmatched Davidson defense.

California Bears
Cal averages 76.3 points per game while shooting 46.6% from the field, and allow 65.2 points per game on 37.8% shooting from the field. This is a really talented California team that has some balance scoring led by Tyrone Wallace at 16.3 points per game. Offensively, although they don't shoot the three-pointer particularly well at just 33.2% per game, they do knocked down there two point shots at 53.6% per contest. As well, although they are not a very fast-paced team they have no problem getting up and down the floor and I anticipate for them to hit the boards and get out in transition a lot tonight. Defensively they are the type of team that can challenge for the Pac 12 title and they do everything well except defend beyond the arc. This is one of the main reasons why like this play tonight as California allows opponents to shoot 38.9% from distance which ranks as one of the worst in the country, and tonight they face a team that will be firing away from beyond the arc.

This a really high total for a game that doesn't mean a whole lot to either of these teams getting ready for league play. With this game sandwiched between a tough loss on the road and then opening up league play for California, I like for the Bears to focus less on getting stops and focus more on outpacing Davidson. For one of your NCAA basketball picks today I recommend taking over the total of 155 and watch these two teams get up and down the floor.
