Last Sunday we hit with a pair of dangerous underdogs with our NCAA basketball picks, to the tune of +280 and +365 on moneyline plays. Let's aim to pull off another trick like that today.
Maryland vs. Iowa: Terps in Corn Country
New Big Ten member Maryland makes its first visit to Iowa City as a conference rivals of the Hawkeyes.
We thought the Terps, in their first season in the Big Ten, might have a tough time finishing in the top half of the conference, and an NCAA tournament bid seemed very iffy. But so far Maryland is proving us wrong, going 19-4 overall, and 7-3 in conference play.
The Terps started 12-1 this season, the only loss coming against Virginia. They then started 5-1 in Big Ten play, sweeping two games from Michigan State. Maryland then lost two out of three, and only beat Northwestern by a point at home, but last time out held off Penn State 64-58. That game was tied late, but the Terps ended on a 12-6 run.
Barring a total collapse Maryland should make it back to the Big Dance for the first time in five seasons.
Iowa, meanwhile, looked like it had a good shot at an upper-division finish in the Big Ten this season, and a return spot in the NCAA tournament. The Hawkeyes still have a shot at both, but they haven't exactly impressed us as of late, losing three in a row, including that 32-point blowout at Wisconsin. Iowa snapped its three-game losing streak with a 72-54 victory at shorthanded Michigan Thursday night.
Maryland has had a little trouble on the road recently, losing at Indiana by 19 and at Ohio State by 24, but back in December the Terps won at Oklahoma State, at Michigan State and at Purdue. And Iowa isn't much better than any of those teams.
As of early Sunday morning Maryland could be found at +6.5 on the spread at Heritage and at +225 on the moneyline at BetDSI.In our book that NCAA Baskeball odds point spread is inflated by at least a bucket or two.

Clemson vs. Miami (FL): Tigers Prowl Miami
Two teams that could use good finishes to the regular season to enhance their postseason possibilities meet when 14-8 Clemson visits 14-8 Miami.
With four starters back from a team that won 23 games last season we thought the Tigers had a chance at getting back to the NCAA tournament this season. At 6-4 in ACC play that's still a possibility.
Those hopes have certainly been helped by a recent four-game winning streak. Wednesday night Clemson won at Florida State 62-56, taking that game SU as a three-point underdog. Just before that the Tigers beat Boston College 64-49, and just before that they won at North Carolina State 68-57. So they've also covered three spreads in a row.
Clemson has also been playing some tough D, holding each of its last six opponents to 59 points or less.
Miami, meanwhile, has lost three in a row, after Tuesday's 63-55 defeat against Louisville. With just two starters back from a team that went 17-16 last season we were pessimistic about the Hurricanes' postseason chances coming in, and as of lately it looks like they've been trying to prove us right. Ten days ago Miami lost at home to Georgia Tech 70-50 as a 10-point favorite, and just after that it lost at Florida State 55-54. So the 'Canes have also lost three in a row ATS.
This game involves two teams headed in opposite directions at the moment, and the team headed in the right direction is getting points. We're not going to pass that up when making our NCAA Basketball picks.
As of early Sunday AM Clemson could be gotten at +6 on the spread at 5Dimes, and at +235 on the moneyline also at 5Dimes.
