Gonzaga has recently been viewed as this elite offensive team, ranking seventh in adjusted offensive efficiency for seven straight seasons. But the Bulldogs might be just as good on the defensive side of the court this year.
Is Gonzaga’s defense underrated?
Gonzaga has allowed 111 points through two games, which included its 83-68 win over Oklahoma on Saturday. The Bulldogs rank 10th in adjusted defensive efficiency in the early stages of the season, per KenPom.
That’s significant because Gonzaga has underwhelmed defensively in recent seasons. The Bulldogs ranked 29th in adjusted defensive efficiency last year, marking their best clip since 2022. If Gonzaga is back to guarding well, that could be a pleasant development for Mark Few’s squad.
A matchup against Creighton offers an excellent test for Gonzaga’s defensive reputation. Greg McDermott’s Bluejays have ranked 33rd or better in adjusted offensive efficiency for the past three years. It also doesn’t hurt that they want to play at a slower pace, ranking 213rd in adjusted tempo.
This game will likely be more of a defensive battle than the current total suggests, which is why my Creighton vs. Gonzaga prediction favors the Under to return $9.09 on a $10 bet.

Graham Ike vs. Creighton’s new frontcourt
Creighton no longer has Ryan Kalkbrenner patrolling the middle of the paint, so Isaac Traudt and Jackson McAndrew have stepped into bigger roles this year. A matchup against Gonzaga’s Graham Ike offers a test of where they are in terms of a defensive frontcourt.
Ike has scored 32 points through two games, which includes a 19-point performance against Oklahoma. Ike went 9-of-15 on 2-pointers and ranks 131st in the nation in percentage of his team’s shots (32.2%) so far this year.
Given Ike’s usage, his scoring prop seems a touch low on Tuesday.
