The Colorado Buffaloes, winners of four of their last five, will travel to BYU to take on the 6-3 Cougars. Below we analyze this matchup, as well as the college basketball odds, with a view towards notching another ATS winner.

Colorado Buffaloes vs BYU Cougars

The Buffaloes are hoping for a repeat performance from just about a year ago when these teams met in Colorado. In that meeting, the Buffaloes dispatched the Cougars by the score of 92-83 as five-point home chalk. However, this season the venue has shifted and the Buffaloes will be stampeding into Provo where they will find themselves as five-point underdogs instead of five-point favorites.

Colorado has rebounded well off what could have been a potentially devastating loss to lowly Colorado State. The Buffaloes were installed as 13 ½-point home favorites to their intrastate rivals but were stunned by the Rams when they not only failed to cover but lost outright 72-58. Since that November 30th defeat, the Buffaloes have rewarded those who have backed them over their last two contests in their college basketball picks with victories and covers over Portland and Xavier.

BYU brings a 6-3 record (3-4 ATS) into this meeting, fresh off a 77-66 win over Weber State. Though the 11 point margin of victory was sufficient enough to give the Cougars a convincing win it did not cover the 13-point impost being hung by the college basketball odds makers. BYU has been tremendous on the boards this season, averaging 46.4 boards per game which place them 2nd in the nation. That fierce rebounding has translated into points as BYU stands as the 17th most prolific scoring offense in all of college basketball, averaging 86.6 PPG.

So here we have two teams that are both forces to be reckoned with on the glass, as Colorado is ranked 22nd in rebounds, but the Buffaloes own a distinct advantage on defense (56th - 64.7 PPG vs. 259th - 76.1 PPG) while the Cougars have a decided advantage offensively (17th - 86.6 PPG vs. 154th - 74.9 PPG). Coincidentally, that's a 12-point difference both ways.

I wish it were that easy to solve a simple arithmetical equation and guarantee your payday. We all know it's far more complicated than that but the Buffaloes are 4-0 against the number versus West Coast Conference teams and 4-1 ATS in their last five road contests. I like the generous head start that the bookmakers are giving us and I will happily take it to back this tough defensive road dog here.
