Tulane vs. Florida State (-13.5)

Site: Amalie Arena (Tampa, FL)

Florida State (8-0 SU, 6-0 ATS) enters the Heritage Insurance Classic arguably the hottest team in college basketball, one of seven remaining undefeated programs in the country. All but one of its eight wins has been by 17 points or more, including a blowout at then-No. 5 Florida 83-66 as 9-point underdogs.

Most analysts believed the Seminoles to play average this season with its three top scorers Dwayne Bacon, Jonathon Issac, and Xavier Rathan-Mayes gone. The media voted them to finish eighth in the ACC preseason poll. Head coach Leonard Hamilton is working some magic, getting every ounce from his squad. Six different players have finished as leading scorer. Junior Terrance Mann is the main man, however. The guard ranks first nationally at his position with a .651 field goal percentage.

Tulane (7-2 SU, 3-2 ATS) is thriving under new head coach Mike Dunleavy Sr, already surpassing last season’s record-low six wins. The longtime NBA figure has the Green Wave running a pro-style offense that moves the ball inside-out and shoots a lot of 3-pointers. Its 17.1 assists per game ranks 29th nationally, dropping 20-plus dimes in four separate contests. Junior guard Melvin Frazier, a tough matchup standing 6-foot-6 tall, leads the team with 18.8 points per game.

Both teams play at a quick pace, Tulane ranking 75th and Florida State 44th in tempo among D-I programs. Oddsmakers opened the contest at 156.5 points, a figure that will likely rise prior to game time. Go the other way on the number. The Green Wave are shooting 40.4 percent in the five games offered on the board this season. The team is much improved, but some of the offensive metrics are inflated due to a few cupcake games early on the schedule. The Seminoles defense will prove a tougher test. Since 2006, the ‘under’ is 31-15-1 in neutral court Florida State contests. La Salle at No. 4 Villanova

La Salle (5-5 SU, 3-7 ATS) enters the city series versus Villanova losers of five of their last six games. The Explorers are too reliant on one player: junior B.J. Johnson. The combo guard/forward averages 21.4 points, 9.4 rebounds, and 1.4 steals per game, recording five double-doubles on the year. Guard Pookie Powell is the only other starter posting double figures in scoring (15.7 ppg). Shut those two down and La Salle is toast.

Villanova has a projected first-round NBA pick in Mikal Bridges (19.0 ppg, 6.2 rpg, and 1.7 apg). The redshirt junior will likely matchup with Johnson and win the battle. Bridges put up 28 points in a win over No. 12 Gonzaga (88-72) on Tuesday, and is averaging 20-plus over his last eight games. Here's what Bridges had to say following his monster performance versus the Zags:

The Wildcats have beaten La Salle in 20 straight. They are in no danger of an upset here. The Explorers are one-dimensional and Villanova will zero-in on double-teaming their two backcourt scorers. La Salle will be lucky to reach 60 points. In the last decade, the ‘under’ is a perfect 10-0 when the Explorers play a ranked opponent on the road. They shoot 38.3 percent from the floor in this situation. Pick ‘under’ 141 for your best bet of the day.
