Many feel the Ducks deserved much better than a #12 seed. They've been matched up with Marcus Smart's Cowboys in the opening round and we have our college basketball picks ready for viewing.

Odds Overview

When we last glanced over what the college basketball odds were offering, we saw Oklahoma State favored by three points. However, if you think the value lies with the Cowboys, there were a couple of sites that had 2.5 for the taking.

The O/U is listed at 135 at most online sportsbooks. The OVER has hit in five of Oregon's previous seven overall and is also 4-1 in Oklahoma State's past five.

Oklahoma State Cowboys

A successful year it was for Oklahoma State though, which is why they've been hit with the #5 seed, albeit with a tough first-round matchup and in an extremely difficult Midwest region of the bracket. The Cowboys ended the season with a 25-8 overall record, good for a #14 ranking in the AP poll. They went 14-6 in conference play, but lost to Kansas State in the Big 12 tournament semi-finals.

Impressive wins for the Cowboys? There were a few. They beat Kansas on the road and also overcame the likes of Kansas State, Oklahoma, Iowa State and Baylor. Oklahoma State lost by just one to number one seed Gonzaga as well.

As you can see, the Cowboys are battle-tested, which will serve them well here in March. It also helps when you've got a talent like Marcus Smart leading your team.

Smart posted team-highs in points (15.4 PPG), assists (4.2 APG) and also was good for 5.7 rebounds per game. The freshman had a lot of hype surrounding him before the season start, but we think it's fair to say he's lived up to it.

Oregon Ducks

Oregon closed out their regular season with consecutive losses to Colorado and Utah, but then found their groove last week. En route to the Pac-12 title, the Ducks beat Washington, Utah and then UCLA in the finals. One of the big storylines was the Ducks receiving a #12 seed despite losing just eight times this season while also winning the Pac-12 tournament.

The return of starting point guard Dominic Artis has been key. Oregon looks much more cohesive on both ends of the court with Artis in the mix again, as they proved in the conference tournament.

The Ducks have great balance. Arsalan Kazemi (9.3 PPG and 9.5 RPG) has been a formidable presence inside, while E.J. Singler, Carlos Emory and Damyean Dotson have put in double-digit scoring averages.

In terms of trend performance though, Oregon has gone 4-11-1 ATS over their last 16 contests and 2-5 ATS in their previous seven neutral-site games.

College Basketball Pick

The Ducks are surely going to be a popular upset otpion with the public's sports picks, and we can't blame them. Oregon should have been rewarded with a better seed and Oklahoma State can't be too happy with their matchup here.

Smart will be the best player on the floor, but the Ducks, with Artis back and healthy, are clicking on all cylinders right now.

Still, the Cowboys have won in some tough environments already this season, the highlight a road win over Kansas, and we believe they'll do enough to win and cover.

March is the time for individual brilliance to shine through. Look for Smart to show why he was named the Big 12 Player of the Year in helping Oklahoma State advance.
