The No. 5 California Golden Bears couldn’t beat the NCAAB odds Wednesday as double-digit favorites. Maybe they’ll do better Thursday as underdogs to the No. 4 Utah Runnin’ Utes.

California Golden Bears vs Utah Utes

I love it when a plan comes together. The No. 5 California Golden Bears were laying 14 points to the No. 12 Oregon State Beavers in Wednesday’s first-round matchup at the Pac-12 Tournament; we had the Beavers in our college basketball picks, and they cashed in by keeping Cal close to the vest before losing 67-62. Fear the Beaver!

We’re inclined to keep fading the Bears. They’ve got a tough one coming up Thursday (5:30 p.m. ET, PAC12) against the No. 4 Utah Runnin’ Utes, whom you may recognize from our truncated Pac-12 tourney preview. The Utes (20-10 SU, 14-12-2 ATS) are one of just two profitable teams in the conference this year when you factor in the vigorish – the Oregon Ducks being the other team in the black. Cal (20-11 SU, 14-17 ATS) needs to run the table deep into March Madness to make a buck this year.

Don’t bet on it. Utah supporters got paid in both regular-season games against the Bears, including last week’s 74-44 demolition of Cal as 2.5-point home faves. We’re going to roll with the Utes here at the home office, thank you kindly.
