Despite possessing one of the best players in the nation in Markelle Fultz, the Washington Huskies continue to struggle. After breaking a 4 game losing streak to Western Michigan, the Huskies square off against the Cal Poly Mustangs and this is an opportunity for the Huskies to gain some confidence.

Cal Poly Mustangs (5-6) vs Washington Huskies (5-5)

Stopping Markelle Fultz

This will be the objective of the Mustangs and let’s just call it “the impossible task” as this 6 foot 4 freshman has dominated in every facet of the game and is well on his way to the NBA.

At just 6 foot 4 inches tall, Fultz is averaging 7 rebounds per game to go along with his 23.2 points, 6.5 assists, 1.9 steals, 1.2 blocks and 50% shooting from 3 point range. What more can a player do to help his team?

Thus far, the Huskies have been unsuccessful as a team despite Fultz’s best efforts as they lost to Gonzaga and recently broke a 4 game losing streak, but in uninspiring fashion in a 92-86 victory over Western Michigan. This may be the ideal spot for Markelle Fultz and his Washington Huskies.

Point Shortage

As for the Cal Poly Mustangs, they’ll be hard-pressed to keep up with Markelle Fultz and the overall offense that Washington possesses. This is a Mustangs team that averages just 68 points per game and rebounding isn’t a strength of theirs.

Two players that Washington will have to contain to be successful are 3-point specialists, Kyle Toth and Victor Joseph. This is a Cal Poly offense which features major substitutions which leads to these two top scorers receiving a shortage in the “PT” department. That said, they make the most of their time on the court as Toth is averaging 54.8% from beyond the arc and Joseph is averaging 43.6%. The bottom line is Washington can’t take Cal Poly lightly.
