With college basketball having arrived and a few terrific games already been played, let's dive into what might be a weekly feature on this day of the week, selecting underdogs for wagering.

Nothing complex involved, just looking at the college basketball odds and seeking at least two underdogs that can cover and if I have done the homework right and get lucky enough, maybe even win outright. Let's get it started with these college basketball picks!

BYU Has Guards to Compete at Princeton

It is not easy being BYU in the West Coast Conference as each year it is the third banana behind Gonzaga and St. Mary's. Once known as a program with multi-skilled big men and adequate guard play, the strength of BYU these days is the backcourt. The Cougars will have one of the best guard duos in the WCC and they should travel well also. TJ Haws is a preseason all-conference selection and Yoeli Childs is a second-team choice. Though BYU's frontcourt is a bit raw, they do have height and ability.

Princeton is the defending Ivy League champion but suffered important graduation losses and will probably slip a couple notches. Junior guard Myles Stephens was an all-Ivy choice a year ago and was also won the Defensive Player of the Year, and he could negate part of what BYU does best. Sportsbooks have the Cougars listed as 4-point road underdogs, and with the Tigers coming off a 85-75 loss at Butler, Princeton is 4-13 ATS in home games off a road setback by 10 points or more.

Ball State Catching Double Digits at Oklahoma

Ball State travels to Norman and can be thankful Oklahoma's Baker Mayfield does not play basketball with his uncanny accuracy and ability to make big plays. The Cardinals were listed as 16-point underdogs this morning and that could provide just what we need.

Ball State has several shooters, ball-sharers and enough athleticism to be a contender in the MAC West and compete in this contest. The star is junior guard Taylor Persons, who has already been pegged as second team all-MAC performer, and if he improves as much as he did last year he will move up the ladder. He plays with two other sharp-shooters, seniors Sean Sellers and Francis Kiapway.

A year after making Final Four , Oklahoma last season had to replace too many quality seniors and finished 11-20, which set a school record for losses. On the positive side, almost 80 percent of the scoring from last year's squad is back, but the Sooners are still presumed to a lower echelon club in the Big 12.

Ball State lost 78-77 as 5.5-point road underdogs at Dayton last time out and is 19-9 ATS as an underdog the last three seasons, giving the Cardinals a real chance to beat the spread.
