It's a mad scramble in the Big East, and that adds to the excitement of tonight's clash between Butler and Creighton with the Bluejays favored on the NCAA basketball odds.

Season: 20-20-1 (-2.00)

A few years ago when the Big East suffered a mass exodus, there were many who wondered if the conference would have much relevance any longer. Wonder no more, my friends, with the league sporting at least six teams that appear to be locks for March Madness and seeming to have a big matchup every night.

Wednesday is certainly no different with the Big East owning the only top 25 skirmish on the board as the No. 12/13 Butler Bulldogs visit the No. 8/8 Creighton Bluejays. FOX Sports 1 begins its coverage from Omaha at 9 PM (ET), and the Bluejays are listed at -4½ at 5Dimes after opening a half-point lower with 152½ for the total.

Villanova's win over Xavier last night leaves five teams in the Big East standings with one loss, including the Bulldogs and Bluejays. Both teams have huge games coming up against Xavier, the Musketeers visiting Butler this Saturday before returning home and hosting Creighton next Monday, a game that will be part of our free college basketball picks.

Which Team Can Consistently Hit From 3-Point Land?

We might eventually look back on that Big East-opening loss at St. John's as the game that woke Butler (14-2 straight up, 10-4 against the spread) up. Chris Holtman's crew responded with three consecutive wins following the defeat, covering the NCAA basketball odds each time. One of those, of course, was the toppling of then-No. 1 Villanova last week, the Bulldogs making up for a 5-for-20 night beyond the arc by netting all 15 free throws.

Creighton (15-1 SU, 11-4 ATS) bounced back from a New Year's Eve loss at home to 'Nova with a couple of road wins and covers last week at St. John's and Providence. The 'Jays shot better than 50% in each triumph, and may have started to find their way from 3-point land vs. the Friars with a 7-for-17 night. Creighton ranks third in the country hitting 42.2% from long-range, but connected on just 27.5% (16-58) in its first three Big East battles.

Schools Meeting For 7th Time As Conference Rivals

Butler and Creighton are colliding for the 14th time tonight, six of the previous 13 clashes coming since both schools joined the Big East for the start of the 2014 campaign. The Bluejays lead the all-time series by a slim 7-6 margin, and it's a level 3-3 as conference foes. They split their two matchups last season, each side picking up a home win and cover. An 88-75 Bulldogs victory in Indianapolis stopped a string of three successive covers for Creighton backers, and also halted a 4-game run of 'under' winners. The Bluejays posted a 72-64 decision in Omaha a year ago, and they're 8-1 (5-3 ATS) on this floor so far this season.

Butler has covered both times it was listed as the underdog this season, but I haven't done too well taking 'dogs myself. My play will be on the home team in this one.
