The Duke Blue Devils will try to avoid a letdown after facing North Carolina and Syracuse, as they prepare to take on the Virginia Tech Hokies Tuesday night. With a large number posted on the odds board, but have we decided to chase it with our NCAA Basketball picks?

Let’s take a closer look at the NCAA basketball odds for this ACC showdown at Cameron Indoor Stadium, with the opening tip scheduled for 7:00 p.m. ET on ESPNU.

A tough situation

Virginia Tech has dropped back-to-back games, including a 71-64 setback to the NC State Wolfpack as 2.5-point home underdogs last Saturday, while going OVER the betting total for the first time in eight contests.

The Hokies have dropped eight of their nine games against ranked opponents since the start of the 2012-13 campaign.

A potential letdown

Duke bounce back from its sixth loss of the season to pick up a 66-60 victory over the Syracuse Orange as six-point home favorites last Saturday, while going UNDER the betting total for a sixth consecutive contest.

The Blue Devils are 42-8 SU in this series, including a 17-1 mark at this venue under Coach K, which could lead to the roster overlooking the Hokies in this spot.

It’s important to point out that the program doesn’t play again until March 5—a potential motivating factor for the coaching staff to make sure the team is sharp heading into the final month of the season.

Lack of firepower

College basketball handicappers are going to have a hard time backing the Hokies as road underdogs, considering their scholarship players have missed a combined 26 games of action this season.

Virginia Tech is also a disappointing 2-7 ATS in its last nine road games versus teams with a winning home record.

Dominant setting

The Blue Devils are tied for the longest active home winning streak in the country at 31 games—winning their last 11 by an average margin of 18.4 points.

Duke has held its last 11 opponents to under 70 points in front of its crazed fan base, while it has compiled a 153-11 SU mark at this facility over the last 10 seasons.
