Hard to believe Thursday starts the last full month of the regular season in college hoops. Nonetheless, for the final day of January we have what has become a national obsession, our two Wednesday (or Hump Day) underdog selections.

College Basketball: Hump Day Underdogs

After last week's Hump Day college basketball picks we are 13-7 ATS (65 percent) delving into the world of dogs -- underdogs, that is. When looking over the multitude of college basketball odds for pooches, two stood out and they are from the ACC and Atlantic 10.

Take St. Louis in Evenly Matched A-10 Affair

Unless a team or two gets hot over the next six weeks, the Atlantic 10 might have only one club in the NCAA tournament and two at best. It is a given two teams that will not be in the field of 68 are St. Louis (11-11, 11-8 ATS) and St. Joseph's (9-11, 9-9 ATS). These run-of-the-mill clubs could actually finish as high as fourth in the final standings and earn a first-round bye in the postseason tournament if they could string together victories.

That seems unlikely, even in this conference. Why, then, does St. Louis look like the better choice at +4 tonight? It starts with the Billikens being the better shooting team. It is not like St. Louis is going to remind you of Golden State, making 42.2 percent, but that is far better than St. Joe's at 40.6 percent. St. Louis also has a +6 rebound edge over the Hawks, which could result in put-back baskets or save points on offensive rebounds. What also grabs our attention is that St. Louis has won six straight at St. Joe's (5-1 ATS) and they are 16-5 ATS after three consecutive conference games since last season.

Syracuse Orange vs. Georgia Tech Yellow JacketsFree NCAAB Pick: Georgia Tech (+1)Best Line Offered: Bovada

Georgia Tech Ends Losing Streak

Georgia Tech (10-11, 9-7-1 ATS) just completed a nasty ACC stretch of playing three ranked clubs and a very talented Florida State squad and was swept (1-2-1 ATS). We are not suggesting Syracuse at 15-6 (8-11 ATS) will be a stroll around downtown Atlanta, but the Orange are not in the same class as the better ACC teams.

Syracuse has much better athletes to run their patented 2-3 zone this season and the length to bother shooters anywhere. But one aspect this Jim Boeheim team is deficient in is making shots, and on the road they connect on only 38.5 percent. Georgia Tech does not fill the basket like Duke does, yet they are more accurate than Syracuse is at 43.6 percent.

The 'Cuse also has issues on the ACC road, with a 3-11 ATS mark since last year. The Yellow Jackets just lost to Clemson by two as 2.5-point home underdogs, but they are 6-0 ATS off a cover where they lost straight-up as an underdog. Georgia Tech catching a point is irrelevant, so let's just call for them to win and end their losing streak.
