Kansas has a lot of new pieces heading into the 2014-15 season, which makes UCSB a playable road underdog on the odds board in visiting Allen Fieldhouse.

Watch Out for Williams
UCSB was picked to finish second in the Big West Preseason Poll, which is important to consider when making your NCAA basketball pick, as they finished in that spot with a 21-9 SU record during the 2013-14 campaign. The Gauchos will be led by two-time First Team All-Big West selection Alan Williams, as the senior averaged 21.3 points and 11.5 rebounds as a junior—leading that particular league in both categories. Over the last two-plus seasons, the squad is 9-19 SU and 17-11 ATS as underdogs.

High Expectations
Kansas opens the season as the fifth-ranked team in the country despite losing the No.1 and No. 3 overall selections in the 2014 NBA Draft, which can’t be ignored when looking over the college basketball betting lines, but it does return two talented starters. Perry Ellis and Wayne Selden Jr. are the main players to watch under head coach Bill Self, as they combined to average 23.2 points per game a season ago. It’s important to point out that the program is 12-2 SU and 5-9 ATS in November since the start of the 2012-13 campaign.

Road Trip
The Gauchos are going to attract some action in the betting market due to their 9-5 SU mark in true road games last year, while they’ve proven victorious in 11 of 15 season openers under head coach Bob Williams. UCSB has some capable players joining Williams on the floor, as it returns 73 percent of its scoring and 79.1 percent of its rebounding.

Dominating Trend
The Jayhawks are double-digit home favorites due to their 41 consecutive home-opening wins at this historic venue, while they’ve also won their last 12 season openers overall. Head coach Bill Self has compiled a 175-9 SU record at Allen Fieldhouse since arriving in Lawrence, but there’s a chance his roster may get caught peaking ahead to a high-profile matchup against Kentucky on deck.

I’m going to recommend that readers back the Gauchos as one of their top NCAAB picks, as they’ve gone 4-1 ATS as road underdogs of 12.5 or more points in their last five opportunities.
