Ohio vs. Evansville (-10-) 9:00 PM ET
The Bobcats of Ohio University travel to the Purple Aces of Evansville for a 9 p.m. ET tipoff at the Ford Center. These teams met last year on the strong home boards of the Ohio U Convocation Center. In that November 30th meeting, Ohio was a 6 point favorite. The Bobcats emerged with a dominant 81-59 victory. Under then, 2nd year HC Jim Christian, Ohio would roll to a 25-12 SU season and an invitation to the CIT, where they were beaten in the Quarter Finals by up-tempo VMI.  Evansville would falter to a rare losing season at 14-19 SU, including 6-12 SU in the rugged MVC. But, oh how the fortunes of these two have changed this season.

Updated NCAA Basketball Futures Odds & Picks for 2014-15

Gone from the Ohio U sidelines is HC Christian, who has matriculated to Boston College. Also missing is last year’s leading scorer, Nick Kellogg. Only 2 RS return to this Bobcat team who has won 78 games in the previous 3 seasons.  The current contingent is clearly having problems adjusting to their new mentor, Saul Phillips. Phillips, you will remember, was the highly-successful headman at N. Dakota St., where the Bison won a combined 50 games the last 2 years and advanced to the NCAA Round of 32 last season.  Sub 30% shooting is a reason why this Ohio team is off to a 3-3 SU, 1-2 ATS start. The victories have come against lower echelon, App St., Ark-Pine Bluff and Alcorn St.  But when stepping up in class, Ohio has lost at home to both Belmont and St. Bonnie. Their lone road game was at FGCU, where they lost 79-62.  In those 3 defeats, Ohio allowed over 80 PPG.

For 8th year Evansville HC Simmons, this could well be his strongest contingent. Five starters return for the Purple Aces, allowing them to challenge for the upper division in the Valley. This strong shooting team is making over 50% of their shots from the field, led by over 20 per game from leading scorer, Ballentine. The 7-2 SU, 5-3 against the NCAA basketball odds spread start has been quite rewarding.  But, the fly in the ointment came on Saturday, when they were upended by Murray St. on this floor (81-79).

For your NCAA Basketball picks that Evansville loss, combined with the Ohio victory at home on Saturdayvs. Alcorn, teams with a 22 point revenge factor for the perfect situational set.  The result is a comfortable double digit victory for the Purple Aces at the Ford Center.
