There aren't many noteworthy games on the NCAA Basketball slate of games for December 1st, but the opportunity to make a profit is what we're looking for with out betting picks.

Nebraska (4-1) vs. Florida State (3-3)

ACC/ Big Ten Challenge
Conference egos will be involved and that will make a game in which the Huskers are a 2 point betting favorite even that much more competitive.

Although Nebraska is the favorite in this game, they haven't been challenged by any legitimate squads other than Rhode Island and they suffered a 66-62 loss in overtime.

Florida State on the other hand, hasn't played any top 25 composition, but has lost games to teams such as Providence and Massachusetts. These are teams that are the best teams in their respective small conferences since the Big East slimmed down. What you have tonight is a "competitive coin-flip."

Petteway and Shields
Nebraska might not be a very deep squad, but they have the two best player in this ball game in Terran Petteway and Shavon Shields. Combined, they average a total of 40 points per game to go along with 12.8 rebounds, and 4.4 assists. Both players also play good defense and can hit the 3-ball. To me, Nebraska has a definite advantage in this game off of star power alone. The only thing negative that can be said about this combination is that Shavon Shields is coming off of a 5 point performance after scoring 35 points against Omaha. I would expect Shields to get back on track in this game.

Florida State isn't a team that's going to overwhelm their opponent with a ton of offense, but they're coming off of back to back victories. In their last victory, they defeated Charleston Southern in a 58-47 snooze fest. In this game, freshman guard Xavier Rathan- Mayes was the only player to score in double figures as he led the way with 16 points, 4 rebounds, and 4 assists. That said, he committed 6 turnovers and shot 1 of 7 from 3 point range.

The only way that Florida State has a chance in this game is with their defense. This is an inept team offensively and Nebraska should be a much larger betting favorite in this game. Consider it a gift from the odds makers.

Texas Southern (1-5) vs. Baylor (5-1)
Texas Southern has gotten the short end of the stick as 5 of their first 6 games have been played on the road. They've lost all 5 games and now they face a Baylor Bears team that is far superior in skill. The Bears are a massive 21.5 point betting favorite in NCAA Basketball odds and the only way that Baylor doesn't cover the spread is if the Texas Southern bench players see a lot of playing time and score meaningless garbage time points.

The Art of Defense
The Bears have allowed 51 points or less in 4 out of their 6 games. That said, they're coming off of a tough loss against the Illinois Fighting Illini. In this game, Baylor held Illinois to just 21 points in the 1st half but couldn't hold the lead as Illinois broke the defensive pressure with 41 2nd half points in a 62-54 victory.

Baylor will look to bounce back as the difficulty of opponent takes a major drop with Texas Southern coming to town.

Rico Gathers is coming off of a huge 11 point, 15 rebound performance against Illinois and is averaging over 10 rebounds per game. At 280 pounds, Gathers is a major load that's difficult to keep out of the paint and will prevent the Tigers from getting 2nd opportunities on the offensive end.

The Bears are led by junior, Taurean Prince, (13.2 ppg.,5 rpg.). Prince isn't going to put up a ton of shots, but he's very efficient and isn't going to make many mistakes. Prince is averaging 55.6 % from 3-point range. He's not taking 10 3-pointers per game, but the Bears know that he's going to make the smart decisions on the court and is clearly one of their go to guys.

For Texas Southern, junior forward, Chris Thomas, is capable of putting up a 20 point game on most teams. He's averaging 16.5 points and 6.2 rebounds per game. Thomas is coming off of a huge 23 points,10 rebounds, and 4 steal performance, but his problem is lack of consistency. Facing Baylor's defense will be Thomas' biggest test to date.

The total is offered in this game at 125 and I expect Baylor to keep the points to a minimum. Take the under as your NCAA Basketball Pick today.
