Check out who we think holds the best value with our NCAA Basketball picks for Saturday's battle between Virginia & Miami. It's been a blistering start for the Cavaliers, who are favored by 6.5 points.
Out on the road, where they've managed to stay undefeated, the Cavaliers are favored by seven points. Keep following along with Sportsbook Review's live NCAA Basketball odds monitoring service in order to maximize the value you get with your NCAA basketball picks.
We've seen how dominant Virginia can be defensively, which explains the low O/U of 118. We recommend staying away from making a play on this game's total, however.
Miami (FL) Hurricanes
Entering conference play, the Hurricanes hold a 10-3 overall record with losses to Green Bay, Eastern Kentucky and Providence. Not the best of competition, we'd say. But, this is a team that's also picked up very impressive wins, like when they overcame Florida early in the season and also topped Illinois at home later on.
Their last time out, Miami had no trouble at all steamrolling past College of Charleston in a 67-40 win. The game was over by halftime, as the Hurricanes had already gone ahead 32-12, meaning they could afford to rest their best players down the stretch. Angel Rodriguez led the way with 15 points, five rebounds and three assists in only 23 minutes.
Rodriguez, a transfer from Kansas State, has been excellent for Miami so far this season, as has Sheldon McClellan, who's averaging 15.7 PPG and 5.5 RPG through 13 games. Those two have been the heart and soul of the team, though Manu Lecomte has also put up double-digit scoring (10.2 PPG) on average.
An incredible start to their season has the Cavaliers flying high heading into ACC action. They've still yet to lose and have looked exceptional at times in protecting their spotless start. Already this season they've beaten the likes of Maryland, VCU, Davidson and Harvard among others - they crushed the Crimson 76-27, while also holding a poor Rutgers team to 26 points in a 19-point win in late November.
As you can see, when this team is in the mood, they can straight up shut down an opposing team, and that's what they'll look to do in South Beach. Virginia wasn't at its best defensively, however, in a recent 83-72 victory over the Wildcats. Fortunately, Anthony Gill was up for the challenge, as he dropped 25 points and 13 rebounds in the victory. Justin Anderson, Malcolm Brogdon and Darion Atkins also reached double figures in scoring.
With the trio of Anderson, Brogdon and Gill, all of whom average at least 13.2 PPG, leading the way alongside a dominant team defense, you can see why Virginia is ranked #3 in the AP poll right now. This team has everything needed of a championship contender, though in order to stay so high in the rankings they can't afford to drop today's game against the Hurricanes.
NCAA Basketball Pick
Considering they haven't given us a reason to stay away, we're going to keep riding the Virginia train. They've passed a couple tough tests already, getting past Maryland and VCU, so we think they'll be ready for this challenge this evening.
It's a scary pick, as Miami has shown they're capable of hanging with anyone in the country on their day, as evident by the win over Florida. Yet, their inconsistency has been very troubling and as such has made the Hurricanes an easy fade when making our college basketball picks. You simply never know what version of this team you're going to get.
Taking Virginia's consistently solid play into consideration, we're adding the road team to our NCAA Basketball Pick for Saturday. We look for the Cavaliers to execute better throughout, especially defensively, en route to the straight up win and ATS cover.
