Kansas State is on the March Madness bubble and needs a run in the Big 12 tournament for an invitation to the Dance. First, it will have to upset Baylor. Can the Wildcats do it?

Baylor vs. Kansas State

Baylor is a perfect 7-0 SU when squaring off against Big 12 foes in which it owns a 4-point margin or better in point differential on the year. What is most impressive is it is winning these games by 12 points on average. The Bears are 5.6 points better than Kansas State entering this matchup, the number (-5) with which oddsmakers opened the quarterfinal game.

Kansas State is at their best against slower teams, going 4-2 SU and 5-1 ATS in Big 12 play against teams with a slower Kenpom rating. Head coach Bruce Weber’s stifling defense, ranked 32nd in efficiency nationally, is allowed to dictate more of the game at a slower pace. Baylor is one of the country’s slowest with a 337 tempo rating, but its defense is actually more effective (ninth in efficiency). Look for both teams to try and control the paint.

Kansas State was just 2-9 SU and 4-7 ATS against Big 12 foes with a winning percentage better than 60 percent this season, losing by 5.4 points per game. One of these wins was a shock upset over Baylor 56-54 in Waco as a 7.5-point underdog. The Wildcats jumped out to a 37-22 lead before the half, and never looked back. The Bears took care of business 77-68 at Bramlage Coliseum as 1-point chalk in the first meeting.
