We are already roughly through 30 percent of the season but the college basketball oddsmakers are still giving bettors the opportunity to get down on NCAAM futures. Let’s take a look at which schools are solid bets to be the only one left on the floor after this season’s Big Dance is finished.

Duke (+505)

Take a good look at the ACC standings because it will be the last time you see Duke in the cellar. The Blue Devils were installed as 15-point road chalk last weekend and were stunned 89-84 by conference foe Boston College. But that did little to sway the college basketball oddsmakers as they are still the odds-on-choice to win a national championship this season. But if that loss didn’t give you cause for a pause then perhaps you should shed your Duke basketball jersey and take a good hard look at the schools below.

Michigan State (+605)

The Spartans sit atop the Big Ten with a 2-0 conference record and a 9-1 overall mark. Their only blemish was an 88-81 loss to the aforementioned Blue Devils at a neutral site in the second game of the season. However, if you have been blindly backing MSU in your college basketball picks then you already know that they have covered in six of their 10 games thus far with double-digit spreads rather commonplace. Speaking of double-digits, the Spartans have won by 10 or more in every victory this season and are worthy of consideration to take home the hardware when the season is done.

Kentucky (+1025)

Kentucky checks in with an 8-1 overall mark with their lone loss of the season courtesy of Kansas in a 65-61 battle that saw them lose the game but cover the number as five-point neutral site underdogs. Like Duke and Michigan State, the Wildcats are routinely saddled as double-digit favorites but they have struggled with lesser lights Vermont, Troy, and Harvard where they won the game but failed to cover the number. Be wary of Kentucky as they don’t look like they have the chops to get it done this season.

Kansas (+1275)

While the rest of the country was watching the NFL, hoop fans were treated to a dandy on Sunday afternoon. The Jayhawks were supposed to rebound bigtime after their spectacularly disappointing 74-65 loss to Washington as 22-point favorites and the then No. 2 team in the nation. But the No.16 ranked Arizona State Sun Devils had other plans and dribbled out of Allen Fieldhouse with a 95-85 win, sending the Jayhawks to their second defeat in as many outings. Consider that Kansas has not yet played on the road with 11 away dates in front of them, which may be just enough to sway you from plunking any of your hard-earned dinero down on the Jayhawks as a title contender.

Arizona State (+4500)

As I scan the NCAA men’s basketball future odds at 5Dimes, there are seven teams between Kansas and Arizona State with lower odds than the Sun Devils. But to exclude ASU from our top five would be a disservice to this team as they are currently 9-0 straight up but more impressively, a mind-blowing 8-0-1 ATS on the season. This team is for real and although the odds will eventually catch up, as the public gets savvy about this Cinderella from the Pac-12, they are undoubtedly worth a few bucks as 45-1 longshots to claim the national championship.
