We’re going to be breaking down the pivotal Big East contest on Saturday between Butler and Providence. We encourage you to read our insightful betting preview article on this game that concludes with an ATS selection.

Big East Regular Season Finale in Providence
The #24 ranked Providence Friars (21-9) will host #21 Butler (21-9) on Saturday at 12:00 PM ET. According to the NCAA Basketball odds at Bookmaker, Providence is a 2.5 point favorite. The Friars upset the Butler Bulldogs 66-62 as a 6.0 point road underdog on January 6th. That game barely stayed under the total of 130.0. These teams are in a three way tie with Georgetown for 2nd place in the Big East standings, and each possesses an identical 11-6 conference record. Both of these teams will be part of the 68-team NCAA tournament field barring something totally unforeseen.

Butler limping to the Finish Line
The Butler Bulldogs enter this final game of the regular season having gone 3-3 in their last six games. The Bulldogs have an outside chance of gaining the #2 seed for the Big East Conference Tournament. They would need a win today, and then hope for Seton Hall to upset Georgetown. The Bulldogs have seen each of their previous five games go under the total, and those contests averaged a combined 120.4 points scored. It must be noted, despite their lackluster performances in recent games, Butler has gone a solid 5-3 in conference road games. The Bulldogs are a strong defensive team which has allowed an average of 60.9 points per game this season.

Friars finishing Strong
The Providence Friars enter Saturday’s pivotal Big East regular season final winners of four of their last five. Their only loss in that sequence came on the road at the hands of #4 ranked Villanova. If Providence is able to beat Butler on Saturday, they would secure the #2 seed in the Big East Conference Tournament. The Friars have seen the last three, and eight of their previous ten games go over the total.

Final Analysis
This is a very tough call between two very evenly matched teams. However, I’m going to favor the team riding the momentum, and playing at home, for one of my NCAA basketball picks on Saturday.
