Although this a pretty high total I like for a high up-tempo affair when Chattanooga visits Illinois in the Emerald Coast Classic. Check our free college basketball pick for this game here.

Betting Odds
College basketball odds have come out with the total at 146 for this game and that seems about right although I expect a lot of up-tempo. For one of my selections today I'm going to take over the total in this matchup expecting not a lot of resistance on the defensive ends.

Chattanooga Mocs
In their one game against a Division I opponent, Georgia, Chattanooga scored 92 points, shooting 43.5% from the field, and 40% from distance. After head coach Will Wade left to take the job at Virginia Commonwealth, Chattanooga grabbed former Florida assistant Matt McCall. What they have is a team with some really good experience back like guard Casey Jones, possible Southern conference player of the year, and Justin Tuoyo in the interior. This is a team that so far has fired a lot of three's attempting 30 against Georgia which ranks them 13th in the country, and then 26 against a lower division team.

Defensively against Georgia they allowed 90 points, 54.2% shooting from the field, and 50% from distance. Surprisingly with those poor defensive numbers they won the game and shocked the Bulldogs with the minor upset. So far though it looks like they are an offensive first-team that is going to try and get in transition and push the tempo.

Illinois Fighting Illini
In three games Illinois is averaging 73.3 points per game, shooting 44.1% from the field, and 36.2% from beyond the arc. As expected so far they been led by guard Malcolm Hill who is averaging 16 points per game. Last season they were a middle tiered ranked offense in the Big Ten averaging 69.1 points per game. This season so far they seem to have a pretty good inside outside presence with Hill and freshman Mike Thorne who is a true big man in the middle at 6' 11" and 270 pounds.

Defensively Illinois has allowed 75.7 points per game, 45.2% shooting from the field, and 41% shooting from beyond the arc. Last year they were decent in the Big Ten allowing just 63.6 points per game but that has not been the case in their first three games of the year. I'm predicting that they will prefer to get out and run in this game against a Chattanooga team that will try to push the pace.

Final Analysis
Illinois has not started out the season very well so look for them to be extra focus tonight at home versus Chattanooga. The Mocs are one of the best mid-major teams in the country though and I don't expect for them to back down. In the end I believe both of these teams to be aggressive on the offensive end and push the pace in what should be one of the more interesting and fun matchups of the day. For one of your NCAA picks I recommend taking the over and expect an up-tempo affair.
