William and Mary has dominated this Tidewater rivalry in recent years, winning five of the last six meetings against ODU. The Monarchs moved to C-USA in 2013, but bragging rights remain amongst former CAA foes. ODU last won in Kaplan Arena in 2012, but are 6-0 SU and 4-2 ATS as road chalk in the building since 2006.

The Tribe connected for a school-record 20 3-pointers on Tuesday in a 103-54 win over D-3 Shenandoah. Head coach Tony Shaver is a mastermind at finding open looks for his shooters. The two-time CAA coach of the year employs a Princeton-like offense that spaces the floor, pushes the pace, and creates a barrage of backdoor cuts. Shaver is missing his three top scorers from last year (Daniel Dixon, Omar Preitt, and Jack Whitman), but field a pair of preseason all-conference honorable mention recipients: guard David Cohn and forward Nathan Knight. Knight, a sophomore, is nearly averaging a double-double with 18.0 points and 9.0 rebounds per game.

Watching tape of UCF on plane & 6-10 @WMTribeMBB soph, Nathan Knight, jumped out at me. Athletic big averaging 18 & 9. One to keep eye on. He’ll be well coached, too.

ODU, meanwhile, is doing what they do best under head coach Jeff Jones, play defense. Its holding opponents to 58.8 points per game on 37 percent shooting. The Monarchs have wins over Dayton, Indiana State, James Madison and Towson. Temple proved the lone loss on a neutral court—the Owls shot 52.6 percent from behind the arc. Jones is on record saying he wants ODU to get up and down the floor a bit quicker this season. Ranking 349 in tempo, the numbers suggest the team has a ways to go.

Shaver is one of the better X's and O's coaches in the nation and has a knack for cultivating shooters. He also is a great motivator and inspires his men to defend Williamsburg like a Revolutionary-era militia. Since 2013, William & Mary is 39-6 SU and 19-12 ATS at Kaplan. This is just the second time it will tip off the underdog in this span, winning outright 96-78 over UNC-Wilmington as 6-point pups last season. Picked to finish eighth in the 10-team CAA, the Tribe may be a tad weaker this season, but will ultimately remain competitive against ODU. This is the fastest and potentially best shooting team Jones' squad has faced all season. If William & Mary doesn't pull off a mild upset, they will force the Monarchs out of their game to win. My NCAAB Pick here is 'over' 138.

SIU Edwardsville vs Creighton (-27)

SIU Edwardsville is still growing as a program, fully certified as a Division I program before the 2012 season. It is 45-103 SU during this time, sinking to its lowest point over the last two seasons with a combined 12 victories. Analysts are not expecting much improvement. The media voted the Cougars to finish last in the Ohio Valley Conference for the third year n a row. Head coach Jon Harris fields four upperclassmen in his starting lineup, including two standout juniors: guard Daniel Kinchen and forward Jalen Henry. Kinchen leads the team in scoring with 21.8 points per game, while Henry averages 16.0 and 9.0 boards.

Creighton is 4-1 SU and 3-1 ATS after having started the season with one of the tougher schedules in the country. The Bluejays are one of just two teams (Wisconsin) having played three ranked teams prior to the Thanksgiving holiday with wins over then-No. 20 Northwestern (92-88) and No. 23 UCLA (100-89). No. 22 Baylor handed the Big East contenders their lone defeat (65-59).

The Cougars literally have a one percent chance to win the game, but after three games in 10 days versus ranked opponents away from home, this isn't a spot to risk lying so many points on the Jays. Behind head coach Greg McDermott, Creighton is 5-5 ATS all-time when spotting opponents 20 points or more. The value here is in the total. Both teams like to get up and down the court, each ranking in the top 80 in tempo nationally. The Cougars, however, will struggle against a top-tier team offensively. They rank 298 in offensive efficiency. Since the shot clock change in 2015, SIU-Edwardsville averages 63.3 points per game on 38.7 percent shooting when catching 20 points or more on the oddsboard. Creighton averages 90.4 versus D-1 programs to begin the year, and will reach the mark here. Don't expect a tired Jays squad to get much more, as they let their foot off the gas late in a blowout. The combined score comes up a couple of baskets short of a 165.5 total. Pick 'under.'
