The Butler Bulldogs have been a giant killer all season long while always not getting the respect that they deserve from the oddsmakers. Butler has suprisingly dropped 2 straight games and tonight they have a big matchup at Marquette as Butler can ill-afford to lose a 3rd straight game. Odds makers place the Bulldogs as a slight underdog in this matchup.

#22 Butler vs Marquette

Underrated?

With victories over Arizona, Cincinnati, Indiana, Villanova, and Xavier, the Butler Bulldogs have a ton of big wins in their "back pocket" where the NCAA Tournament is concerned, but in my opinion, this team always appears to be underestimated where the rankings and betting odds are concerned.

With recent losses to Creighton and Georgetown, this hasn't helped Butler's case in regards to respect, but this is still a team that can beat any team at any given time and the bettor will always be able to obtain Butler at very appealing odds.

Tonight, the Bulldogs face a very solid Marquette team that's also beattable. Home court advantage has made the Golden Eagles a slight betting favorite. While Butler is always good value in my book, this is the first time this season where they need to prove themselves as a loss to Georgetown wasn't expected.

Kelan Martin

Despite Butler's overall success, this isn't a team that will light the scoreboard up for 100 points and aren't a strong rebounding squad. They're a team that hit's timely buckets and capitalizes on the opposition's mistakes.

In order for the Bulldogs to break their 2 game losing streak, leading scorer Kelan Martin will need to have a productive game. In Butler's last 2 games, Martin has shot nearly 50% from the field while averaging 16.5 points, and 6 rebounds per game. These numbers are right around his seasonal averages. Martin will need to cut down on turnovers as this can be yet again another close game and turnovers are usually a respective team's downfall.

Earlier in the season, Martin put up 22 points and 7 rebounds against Marquette in a 88-80 victory. The only difference is that this game is at Marquette and Butler has lost their momentum.

Without any definitive go to guy, Marquette is a team that averages 84 points per game. This outcome of this game will be decided by the effectiveness of Butler's defense and despite their two recent losses, expect the Bulldogs to bounce back tonight in an important game.
