The run continues as we sit 16-3 ATS in my published college basketball picks since the last weekend in January. Nobody wins in the long run by throwing everything down on a “can’t miss lock”. I’ve looked at the Saturday betting card, though, and I really love these totals picks.

BYU vs Gonzaga

BYU is one of the faster-paced teams in the country, and in this case, they are going to go up against a team that will make more shots than not in Gonzaga. In the first match up between these two teams, Gonzaga won 85-75 even though they attempted 8 less shots than BYU. The Cougars put up 67 shots in that game and shot just 35.8% from the floor and 27.3% from behind the arc. That is well below their 46% from the field and 34.4% from distance average over the year.

And even though Gonzaga scored 85 points in that game, they shot under their season average as well in hitting at 45.8% from the floor. Gonzaga averages an insane 51.8% from floor on the season. With the pace that BYU likes to play, combined with their home court advantage, Gonzaga could push 100 points in this game. That’s enough for me to take over 161.5 points at BookMaker as one of my Saturday college basketball picks.

 Citadel vs Samford

Speaking of high paced, The Citadel averages 73 attempts from the floor each game on the season. They average 90.8 points per game overall, but just 83.1 points per game on the road. They always sport some of the highest listed totals in college basketball, and I’m 2-0 ATS picking which way to go with this team.

Citadel has already played Samford this year, with Samford winning 98-90 in the first game. However, Samford did not play to the pace that Citadel wanted to and only put up 52 shots to The Citadel’s 86. Samford shot 63.5% from the floor in that game and 47.6% from distance, well over their season averages. It is Samford’s stubbornness to increase their pace that is the basis for this pick, as I see the picking up an easy win at home and running shot clock by the end of the game.

Idaho State vs Eastern Washington

For a game to go over a total, you need a slower team that will play to the pace of a faster paced team, and that is exactly what we have with Idaho State. Even though they average only 69.4 points per game on the year, Idaho State has got into some track meets and scored 81, 91, and 94 points in recent games. Earlier in the year, they ran with Eastern Washington and lost in an 85-92 game that went 34 points over the listed total.

Eastern Washington loves shooting at home, with a 14-1 SU record there to boot. Look for them to try to get way up on Idaho State early, but they are not disciplined enough to slow down the pace once they are ahead in this game. Take the Over.
