Our expert handicapper is racking up units as the end of the college basketball regular season approaches. Here, he breaks down a match up between two fast paced teams in the Pac-12.

I’m in the midst of a 15-3 ATS run, so you guys are getting what you pay for with these premium picks. Tonight, we have the 24-3 UCLA Bruins heading to face a Pac-12 conference opponent in the 13-15 Arizona State Sun Devils. With UCLA being ranked 5th in the country I am not surprised that they are being asked to give up 12 points of road chalk in this match up, but here we are. The O/U total is taking the first game between these two teams in consideration, with a total of 177 initially posted at BookMaker. That first game was a high-paced UCLA win which ended up with a score of 102-80.

Both of these teams come into this game with 4 days of rest after playing last Saturday night. Arizona State is coming back home after their Washington road trip, splitting games SU and ATS against UW and WSU. Their last game was a big letdown, losing by 15 points while being listed as a 4-point road favorite over Wazzu. The loss wasn’t the fault of their leading scorer though, as 6’ 5” guard, Torian Graham, was right at his season average in scoring 18 points in that game. The Sun Devils star player put up 26 points in the first game against UCLA, so expect him to fill the stat sheet again tonight.

Arizona State has a very high tempo offense, so it is natural they have more players averaging double-digits in scoring per game. 6’ 1” guard, Tra Holder, is averaging 17.2 points per game, 6’ 1” guard, Shannon Evans II is averaging 15.8 points per game, and 6’ 8” forward, Obinna Oleka, is averaging 12.1 points and 9.7 rebound per game. Other than Oleka, the Sun Devils do not have another scoring threat in the front court.

With UCLA being #1 in the country in scoring percentage, they have threats to score all over the place. They just broke a 4-game losing streak against crosstown rival, USC, and come into this game off of that 102-70 win. In that game, guard Bryce Alford exploded for 26 points and added a season high 6 assists. But it was the 4th leading scorer for UCLA that heated up the Sun Devils in the first go-around, as 6’ 5” guard, Isaac Hamilton, hit 9 of 14 from distance in a 33-point outburst at home. Six players scored in double digits in that first win over Arizona State, as the Bruins shot an insane 60.3% from the floor, and 59.3% from 3-point range.

UCLA is good, but I don’t think they can replicate that shooting performance on the road here. I don’t doubt they win this game straight up, and may lay the road chalk with them. But in looking at the numbers, the value here is to take the Under of 177 in the NCAAB Odds and count on UCLA scoring at less than 60% efficiency tonight as one of your Thursday college basketball picks.
