Is time running out for both the Creighton Bluejays and Georgetown Hoyas as far as reaching the NCAA Men's Basketball Tournament? It certainly seems that way, making their clash Tuesday all that more crucial.

Both teams are presently outside the top 70 in the latest RPI, and every loss from here on out will make it all the more difficult for either to make it to the Big Dance. It's especially important for Georgetown after losing to Creighton once already this season, the Bluejays really needing a series sweep to get back in the picture.

They'll tip things in DC a little past 6:30 PM (ET) at Verizon Center, FOX Sports 1 providing the telecast. BetOnline introduced the game with Georgetown laying 2, that spread now at -4 with 148 for the total.

The Bluejays took the first meeting of the season on their home floor three weeks ago, 79-66. It was a back-and-forth battle, Creighton taking a 2-point lead into intermission and the Hoyas up by three with about 10 minutes to go in the second half. That's when the Bluejays went on a 10-0 run and then held Georgetown off at the free throw line down the stretch, outscoring the Hoyas 21-3 from the charity stripe for the game.

Despite the loss, Georgetown still holds a 4-3 lead in the series, all but one of those matchups played the past two years since the schools became Big East foes. The Hoyas have won four of the six contests played as conference rivals, including both tilts at Verizon Center. The final in Omaha on January 5 stayed 'under' a 152 point mark, the fifth low-side winner in six league battles, while Creighton easily covered as 3 point home favorites on the NCAA basketball odds to leave spread betting split in Big East affairs.

'Jays Perfect 3-0 In Big East Road Games
Creighton (14-6 straight up, 12-7 against the spread) did at least increase its rankings this past Saturday with a 72-64 home win over Butler, who Joe Lunardi has on his bubble as the fourth and final team from the Big East to make the Field of 68. All signs point to Villanova, Xavier and Providence being the only 'locks' from the conference.

Favored by a bucket, the Bluejays were able to knock off then-No. 18 Butler thanks to a big second half from Maurice Watson who netted 18 of his 20 points over the final 20 minutes. Give the Bulldogs an assist with an off game on the offensive end and three players fouling out, guard Jordan Gathers committing five fouls in just seven minutes of floor time.

It was Creighton's first win over a ranked opponent in 13 tries, and the Bluejays have also proven they can win on the road with a perfect 3-0 mark in Big East play. Greg McDermott's side covered all three of the victories -- at DePaul, Seton Hall and St. John's -- with totals running 2-1 O/U in the contests. This will be a tougher test at Georgetown, however, with the Red Storm, Blue Demons and Pirates a combined 4-17 in conference clashes.

Hoyas Perfect 3-0 ATS In Big East Home Games
Georgetown (12-8 SU, 11-7 ATS) didn't help itself this past weekend with a 68-62 loss at UConn. The Hoyas were underdogs in the non-con matchup, but couldn't cover the 4½ point spread in the 68-62 setback that came on the heels of a solid upset at Xavier four days earlier.

The blizzard that pounded the East Coast kept John Thompson III's team in Connecticut until they could travel home Monday morning, making for a long week away from campus for the Hoyas. Georgetown is 2-1 against league rivals at Verizon Center, the lone loss coming to Villanova, and a 3-0 ATS in those encounters.

I'm sending out my free NCAA basketball picks on the final never making it to the total on Tuesday.
