The Minnesota Timberwolves are a bargain on the NBA odds board for Saturday’s reunion with Jimmy Butler and the Philadelphia 76ers.

The Minnesota Timberwolves are going to host the Philadelphia 76ers on Saturday, right after they took on the Golden State Warriors. The Sixers were idle on Friday, so this is obviously not a good spot for Minnesota – but it looks like the betting market has already over-reacted.

That’s if you believe in the projections at FiveThirtyEight. They’ve got Philly pegged as a 5.5-point favorite using their CARMELO formula, which does take days of rest into account. But the Sixers opened at –8.5 on the NBA odds board, so yeah, we’re going to take our chances with the Wolves. Only for a small wager, though. It’s still the Wolves we’re dealing with here.

Simmons Beautyrest Bowling Ball

You have to hand it to Minnesota for not folding their tents. They beat the Golden State Warriors 131-130 in overtime (Over 228.5) on Friday as 10-point home dogs, which messed up our NBA picks here at the ranch, but that’s life. Somehow, Josh Okogie (minus-1.9 BPM) was the only Timberwolf who played 40 minutes, so that extra frame shouldn’t have too much of an effect on Saturday’s result.

Philadelphia didn’t help us out in their last game, either. They dusted off the Brooklyn Nets 123-110 as 7-point home faves; Ben Simmons (plus-4.2 BPM) didn’t look particularly worse for the wear after dealing with a bout of gastroenteritis, dropping 16 points (on 7-of-14 shooting) and eight rebounds on the Nets before fouling out. Oh well. The Sixers are still 6-2 SU and 3-5 ATS over their past eight games, so bet on them at your peril.

KAT People

This just in: Joel Embiid (plus-3.9 BPM) is going to sit out Saturday’s game for “load management” purposes. This is a small surprise, as Saturday’s game isn’t a back-to-back situation for Philly, so if you can still get Minnesota at +8.5 by the time you read this, that’s obviously a bargain. For that matter, if they only move down a couple of points to +6.5, that’s still a bargain. God bless the NBA.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

39 PTS, 13 REB, 6 AST & 3 STL for @JoelEmbiid in the @sixers home win! #SAPStatLineOfTheNight pic.twitter.com/1JF65wiziH
— NBA.com/Stats (@nbastats) March 29, 2019
\n\n\n\n"}[/]

Taking Embiid out of the equation means even more considering that Minnesota’s best player is their center, Karl-Anthony Towns (plus-7.3 BPM). He’ll have to deal with Boban Marjanovic (plus-1.1 BPM) instead of Embiid, which is no picnic, but the Sixers don’t have much else to throw at Towns other than Amir Johnson (minus-1.1 BPM). And did we mention that Jimmy Butler (plus-3.3 BPM) is in this matchup? Let’s see if the Wolves have something extra-spicy for him on Saturday.
