It's been a rough few weeks for the Sun, but they have a golden opportunity to end this growing losing streak when they host Indiana tonight. Where should we go with our WNBA picks?
The Sun are widely favored by 2.5 points across a multitude of sportsbooks, with Heritage the lone site that's offering a line of 3 right now. If you believe Indiana is the right side tonight, you may want to jump on that number before it goes down to 2.5.
As for the total, the O/U is trading at 154 points, one of the highest totals of the night. The Fever and Sun are currently ranked fifth and sixth respectively in points scored per game ahead of Saturday night's contest.
Well, it's certainly been an interesting season for the Sun. They opened up on a tear, winning seven of their first eight games, but they've since gone ice cold. Ahead of tonight's game, Connecticut has lost five games in a row, therefore dropping to 7-6 on the season. Three of those losses came at home, no less.
Two nights ago, the Sun fell by seven to New York on their own court. In the 64-57 defeat, Connecticut couldn't get anything going offensively, shooting a miserable 30.0 percent from the floor overall. Guard Alex Bently led the team with 15 points, but it was a game to forget across the board for the Sun.
You had to figure Connecticut's red-hot start wasn't going to last, and we've certainly become accustomed to the weaknesses within the squad. The Sun are ranked near the bottom in team rebounding and team assists, and Bentley and Kelsey Bone just haven't been getting a lot of help offensively in general. Nonetheless, you have to think motivation is going to be extremely high tonight, with the team desperate as ever to get back on track with a win.
While the Sun have been a mess recently, the Fever have turned things around by winning five of their previous six overall. They've moved to 8-7 on the year, but they weren't able to end up on the winning side in their most recent matchup, a 68-50 loss to Washington.
It was a rough performance from Indiana, who was at home but couldn't buy a bucket. The Fever shot a miserable 31.6 percent from the field and were outclassed in essentially every way en route to the blowout loss in front of their own fans. Marissa Coleman scored 11 points and Lynetta Kizer finished with 10 points and eight rebounds, but it was obvously a game to forget for Indiana.
Will the Fever be able to bounce back tonight back out on the road? They were able to get the better of Connecticut in the teams' one previous meeting this season (92-84), but it's going to be more difficult this time around away from home.
Despite their recent struggles, we're liking Connecticut's chances of finally breaking the losing streak with a win. We haven't been too impressed with the Sun overall, as it's clear they're weak in certain areas, but fortunately for them they come up against an Indiana team that's been just as futile.
We've seen solid play out of the Fever lately, but they haven't come up against the best competition, and we'd like to see more before fully trusting them with our WNBA picks.
This sets up as an appealing spot to back a potentially underpriced Connecticut at home, one that will be out for revenge after losing to Indiana earlier this season. Look for the Sun to win by at least three tonight at home.
