The Lynx are enjoying another fine season and are priced out as favorites once again for tonight's home date with the Sky. Let's run over the WNBA odds.
Once again the Lynx are in a familiar position, as they're priced out as the favorites on the WNBA odds board for Friday night. There are three games going on around the league, and it's Minnesota that's the biggest chalk out there; the Lynx are currently favored by seven points across all the major sportsbooks.
If you're intent on trying to beat the game's total, the O/U is trading at 158.5 points, which means we should be in for a relatively high-scoring game. It's a clash between the league's most prolific scoring team (Chicago) and the league's best defensive team (Minnesota) - who will win out?
There's not much to complain about if you're a supporter of the Lynx. They remain one of the best teams in the entire WNBA and have raced out to another hot start in 2015, going 10-3 through their first 13 games of the season. Minnesota currently ranks first in both assists per game and in fewest points allowed per game.
We last saw the Lynx take the court three days ago in a 85-79 win over Connecticut. Maya Moore had an outstanding all-around performance, scoring 26 points on 8-of-14 shooting to go with seven rebounds, five assists and two blocks in 37 minutes of action. Seimone Augustus helped out with 21 points and five assists of her own, and Rebekkah Brunson put up 12 points, six rebounds, three assists, five steals and a block in another versatile individual effort.
With Moore having another standout season and Minnesota also having three other players who average in double figures, it's easy to see why this franchise has been having so much success. A win over Chicago tonight would be the Lynx's third in succession.
Armed with a potent offense, the Sky have reeled off four straight wins to move to 9-5 for the season and a tie with New York atop the Eastern Conference standings. It's been quite a run, as Chicago has overcome Connecticut twice along with Washington and this same Minnesota team along the way.
Chicago's latest win came just two days ago against Washington, and boy did this one get ugly fast. The Sky outscored the Mystics 27-11 in the second quarter and never looked back on their way to a blowout 85-57 victory. Five different members of Chicago scored in double figures, with Elena Delle Donne recording 11 points and 10 rebounds in only 24 minutes of work.
Delle Donne has been the catalyst for the Sky's offensive explosions this season, but she will have to be at her best to get the best of a stingy and very athletic Minnesota defense. It should be a fascinating matchup.
This is an interesting matchup we've got on our hands.
The Sky are playing excellent basketball right now and have built up quite a bit of momentum, yet they are significant underdogs tonight against the Lynx. We're inclined to agree with the oddsmakers' take on this game and believe that Minnesota is going to end Chicago's streak in this situation. The Lynx have lost just one time on their home floor and they haven't exactly been playing poorly either, picking up two wins in a row ahead of tonight.
So, with our final WNBA picks, we like the look of backing Minnesota despite the reasonably high line. Some may go the other way and take the points that come with Chicago, but we think Moore and the Lynx will be up for the challenge and will get some redemption from a loss to the Sky not too long ago.
