One of Kyrie Irving’s notable qualities is his ability to play the game of basketball very well, and he’ll have another nationally televised opportunity to showcase his talent on Christmas evening against John Wall and the Washington Wizards.

This time of year may be when the general public starts paying attention to the NBA, but we’ve been on it for months now and this Boston team is legit. Even with a couple of injuries, including one to Gordon Hayward, the Celtics are the second best team in the East, and it’s possible these two could hook up once again in the playoffs this season.

While it won’t be a playoff atmosphere, it might be close to that on Monday in Boston. The Celtics fans should show up well even on Christmas, and I think the Celtics will show well too.

However, the NBA Odds of -5 in favor of the Celtics are pretty sharp, so the totals are where I’m looking for value on Christmas. These two teams both rank in the top 10 in defensive rating this season, with the Celtics allowing a league-low 102.7 points per 100 possessions.

Combine that with the holiday early start time and you have a recipe for a slow starting game. The only problem with the full game total of 205 ½ is both these teams could get hot against one another.

However, the first half lie of 105 ½ is ripe for an under play on the 5:30 start. The Wizards are 13-4 cashing under the full game total this season, and on the road they are scoring and allowing around 51 points per first half.

The Celtics on the other hand are allowing just 45 points per first half over their last five games leading up to this holiday showcase, and I think the first half under is where the value should lie with this one.
