The Washington Wizards aren’t very good, but they’re a good NBA pick as 1-point home faves for Saturday’s game against the Miami Heat.

Jason’s 2018-19 NBA picks record through Mar. 21: 20-19-1 ATS, 0-4 ML (minus-9.35 units), 30-14 Totals

Miami (35-36 SU, 39-32 ATS) at Washington (30-43 SU, 35-38 ATS)

Saturday, 7:00 p.m. ET

Free NBA Pick: Wizards ATS

Best Line Offered: Sports Betting

[/]{"component":"oddswidget", "eventId":3569016, "sportsbooksIds":[999991,1096,238,19,1275], "LineTypeId":1, "PeriodTypeId":1}[/]

Oh, those crazy Washington Wizards. They’re one of the most dysfunctional teams in the league, and it looks like they’re going to miss the playoffs, too. John Wall is out for the season. Dwight Howard barely even played this year. Otto Porter Jr. got shipped to the Chicago Bulls at the trade deadline. It’s an absolute boondoggle, folks.

And we’re putting the Wizards in our NBA picks. They’ll be hosting the Miami Heat this Saturday, and while it doesn’t look good for our fallen heroes, they should have some betting value as 1-point home favorites. FiveThirtyEight have the Wiz projected at –3.5, so we’ve got ample profit margin to work with on the NBA odds board – if you believe in the power of advanced stats, that is. Do you believe? Place your hands upon the screen and feel the power.

No Justise, No Peace
If you don’t believe those projections, the Wizards are going to be a hard sell. They’ve lost four of their last five games at 2-3 ATS, while the Heat are rolling at 4-1 SU and ATS. Miami also has a hold of the eighth and final playoff spot in the Eastern Conference, so they’ll be working hard to maintain and possibly improve upon that position.

The Heat just can’t seem to stay healthy, though. Over the past week, the following three players have hit the injured list:

Justise Winslow (thigh, plus-0.1 BPM)
Rodney McGruder (knee, minus-1.9 BPM)
Bam Adebayo (hip, plus-3.0 BPM)

All three are listed as day-to-day; at press time, Winslow and McGruder have been nixed for Friday’s road game against the Milwaukee Bucks, while Adebayo was expected to play. The Bucks and Heat aren’t known for playing patty-cake, so Adebayo could be extra-sore once Saturday rolls around. And conveniently enough, the Wizards are idle Friday.

Portishead

Aside from Wall and Howard, Washington has one injured player to worry about: Trevor Ariza (minus-0.2 BPM). He’s doubtful for Saturday with a strained left groin, which means we’re likely to see more of Troy Brown Jr. (minus-3.6 BPM) at small forward. Head coach Scott Brooks also seems intent on starting Bobby Portis (minus-3.4 BPM) at the 4-spot. Yay?

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

Bobby Portis picks up a flagrant after catching Lauri in the face pic.twitter.com/KatqZ8Bhlg
— Bulls Talk (@NBCSBulls) March 21, 2019
\n\n"}[/]

We did say this would be a hard sell. But the Wizards still have Bradley Beal (plus-3.0 BPM) and Thomas Bryant (plus-1.6 BPM) and some assorted useful players, and they’ll have the best advantage in this matchup. Keep a close eye on that Heat-Bucks game to see if they put Adebayo through the shredder, then bet accordingly for Saturday – and may the sphere be with you.
