Are you ready for the 2018-19 NBA regular season to begin or what? Intertops is offering a prop on which team LeBron James makes his Lakers debut against.

Is there any question that the NBA now has easily the most entertaining/newsworthy offseason of any of the four major American sports leagues? The Association is a league built on stars, and big names are changing teams annually these days. Don’t even talk to me about baseball – that sport doesn’t have any national-level superstars on the level of LeBron James or Kevin Durant. The NFL rarely sees its biggest-name players, i.e. quarterback, change teams. The NHL is a niche sport.

Of course, this offseason has already been as wild as any with LeBron James leading the charge by leaving the Cleveland Cavaliers again, this time for the Los Angeles Lakers. Will Kawhi Leonard join him there in a trade from the Spurs? Magic Johnson already has surrounded LeBron with an interesting group of free-agent veterans in Rajon Rondo, Lance Stephenson and JaVale McGee, plus re-signing Kentavious Caldwell-Pope.

While LeBron signing jumped the Lakers to the second-favorites on the BetOnline NBA futures, the Golden State Warriors remain the clear team to beat, and they just got better by signing four-time All-Star center DeMarcus Cousins to a way-below-market-value one-year, $5.3 million deal. Now the Dubs could start five All-Stars once Cousins is healthy in December or January off his Achilles injury. The Warriors will be the first team in NBA history to have 3 players who averaged 25 points per game the year before (Cousins, Steph Curry, Kevin Durant).

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

LeBron seeing the Boogie news pic.twitter.com/blepxPaZAF
— SB Nation (@SBNation) July 3, 2018
\n\n"}[/]

We can’t wait for the 2018-19 regular season to begin, and our friends at Intertops have come up with a prop per SBR’s request: Which team does LeBron’s Lakers open against (whether home or away)?

The schedule should be released sometime in mid-August if past years are any indication. The league likes to schedule a marquee nationally televised TNT doubleheader to tip off the season, which in 2018 probably will be Tuesday, Oct. 16. For example, last year the two major Opening Night games were Boston visiting Cleveland and Golden State vs. Houston. That was Kyrie’s return to the Land after being traded to the Celtics last offseason and the Warriors raising their championship banner against a Rockets team that added Chris Paul last offseason.

The Warriors are a lock to open at home on Opening Night again to raise another championship banner, and they are the +175 favorites to be the Lakers’ first opponent. That makes all the sense in the world since LeBron has faced the Dubs in the past four NBA Finals.

Here are the other Intertops betting options and my thoughts (more teams available upon request at the site):

San Antonio Spurs (+350): Clever oddsmakers at Intertops. The Spurs likely won’t be very good next season if they trade Leonard to the Lakers (or anywhere else), but it would be a huge story line for him to open against his former team.

Boston Celtics (+450): The C’s are the Eastern Conference favorites as things stand, and no rivalry in the NBA historically beats Celtics-Lakers – and it’s back with both teams now title contenders.

Houston Rockets (+450): The Rockets tried to get LeBron to come play with good buddy Paul.

Cleveland Cavaliers (+550): The Cleveland faithful booed LeBron incessantly when he first returned to the Land while a member of the Miami Heat. Expect a much better welcome whenever his Lakers visit.

Toronto Raptors (+650): The Raptors were eliminated by LeBron in each of past three postseasons. Not sure they are sexy enough to be the Opening Night opponent.

Oklahoma City Thunder (+750): LeBron against Russell Westbrook, Paul George and good buddy Carmelo Anthony; most thought George would leave OKC this offseason to join LeBron in his hometown of L.A.

Los Angeles Clippers (+1600): The Clippers aren’t really relevant any longer so probably not an interesting enough matchup for national television.

Free NBA Pick: Thunder +750

Best Line Offered: Intertops
