This sports handicapper has scrutinized the betting odds on offer today to find his top picks. With no action in the NCAA Tournament and little in NHL, we focus mainly on the NBA for Wednesday.

Philadelphia Sixers vs. Washington Wizards 7:05 ET  CSN-P, CSN-DC
If you have been a regular reader of this article you know I am always trying to understand why lines move and what those studying the betting odds are thinking. In this Eastern Conference matchup I am completely flummoxed. Washington opened as -12 point favorites against Philadelphia and has been shifted all the way down to -5, which is one of the biggest sportsbooks moves all season. At first I didn’t believe it and checked multiple sources and saw the same numbers. I went over several Wizards websites to find if they were sitting players and found zilch. I then checked websites which show bet percentages and an incredible 95 percent for reasons completely foreign to me are backing Philadelphia. Honestly, the only thing that makes sense, its April Fool’s Day and yes I got you, the real adjusted number is 10. Have a great rest of the day!

NBA Pick – Lean Philadelphia

Indiana Pacers vs. Boston Celtics  7:35 ET  FS-IN, CSN-NE
Indiana’s chances of making the playoffs continue to dwindle, having lost at Brooklyn 111-106 last night. The Pacers are two games behind in the loss column for the last postseason slot in the East and takes on Boston who is one game ahead of them. Indiana is 2-8 (3-6-1 ATS) in their past 10 contests and it’s been a leaky defense which has sprung a leak, surrendering 107.2 points a game in this stretch. Those overlooking the NBA odds on totals are convinced Indiana will not be able to fix what ails them and sent the number soaring from 197 to 201. You have to think this is correct with the Pacers 12-2 OVER away after a road game where both teams scored 100 or more points and the Celtics 11-3 OVER off a road win this season.

NBA Pick – Play Over

L.A. Clippers vs. Portland Trailblazers 10:05 ET  NBA-TV
In Portland’s last five home games, they have averaged 112 points per contest. The L.A. Clippers offense has also been on the offensive, totaling 113 points a game in their last seven, further bolstering their position as the league’s No.2 offense. Those making NBA picks see no reason to buck these trends and elevated the total from 207.5 to 210. As an NBA basketball handicapper, I see where the Blazers are 15-5 UNDER at home when the total is 200 or higher. Nevertheless, the Clips are 11-1 OVER on the road in the second of back to back contests.

NBA Pick – Slight lean Over

New Orleans Pelicans vs. L.A. Lakers  10:35 ET  FSN-NO, TWC-SN
The Pelicans begin a three-game road trip while the Lakers are glad to be back in L.A. after a five-game road sojourn. Each of these situations has possibly help shape the total diving from 196 to 193.5. New Orleans enters this fray off a two very good shooting nights yet is 18-6 UNDER in away games after two straight outings having made 50 percent or more of their shots. The Lakers are 13-3 UNDER at home after playing three consecutive road encounters. History suggests following this path.

NBA Pick – Play Under
