It’s another big card in the NBA tonight, as Wednesday brings us a gift of 12 games tonight. There are several intriguing NBA Odds, and I have chosen two to share with you for my NBA Picks of the day.
The Lakers played last night in Minnesota, and now travel down into Cleveland to play the Cavs. The NBA Odds favor Cleveland at -6 ½, and as much as that may seem like a play, I think the total has more value tonight. Currently the NBA Odds for the total are 208 points.
With the Lakers playing last night, they should be pretty tired. Although they got back some of their point guard depth last night, they are still down Pau Gasol and Kobe Bryant. However this shouldn’t affect the total of this one, and if anything it will help. Bryant and Gasol are not only the Lakers’ best two players, but their best two defenders as well. The Lakers have cashed the over in six of their 11 games on no rest this season, and I think they do it again tonight.
The Cavs score about 100 points per game when they play the Western Conference, and looking at their first meeting with the Lakers a few weeks ago, I think it’s safe to say these two can score on one another. Their first meeting ended at 120-118, and although I doubt this one is a high scoring as that game in January, it could still go over. The Cavs are giving up 108 points per game to the West this season, and the Lakers’ defense isn’t much better. In their last 11 games, the Lakers’ have cashed the over in nine of them, and in their last ten overall, the Lakers’ defense is giving up 109 points per game.
NBA Pick: OVER 208
Portland Trail Blazers vs. New York Knicks
Another early game that catches my eye is the Blazers heading into Madison Square Garden to play the Knicks. The NBA Odds have New York as a +2 home underdog, and as tempting as that may be tonight, once again I think the over is the play at 207. The Blazers are only 1-7 ATS in their last eight games, but the Knicks could very easily be the ones overvalued here tonight.
The total is much safer, as both these teams cash the over well in their positions. The Knicks have cashed the over in 62% of their home games this season, while the Blazers have cashed the over in 14 of their last 21 road games. The Knicks’ defense will be no match for the Blazers, and even though I think Tyson Chandler will do well guarding LaMarcus Aldridge, the rest of the Blazers are a mismatch for the Knicks defensively.
However a lot of teams have been bad matchups for the Knicks recently. New York has cashed the over in six of their last seven games, and five of their last six road games. After that nice streak back to end January, the Knicks are back to their old tricks after losing to Milwaukee two nights ago. However even though they won’t stop the Blazers, New York should be able to score. On the road this season, the Blazers have given up an average of 105 points per game.
