The NBA season is upon us and for my total play of the day I don't think we're going to see a lot of points between the Hornets & Heat. A lot of people are high on Miami this year.

NBA odds
NBA odds makers came out with this line around 190, but it has gone up to 193. I'm pretty curious as to why that is the case because I don't see either of these teams, especially Charlotte, lighting up the scoreboard. You can still get good odds right now at Pinnacle under 193 at -105. For my NBA total pick of the day I'm going to take under this total.

Charlotte Hornets
Last year offensively the Hornets averaged 94.2 points per game, 53.7 rebounds per game, and shot 42% from the field. They really didn't add a lot to their lineup that shows they will be more efficient on this end of the court. They did add Nicholas Batum, and Frank Kaminsky, along with Jeremy Lin. Besides that not much has changed in Charlotte and I look for them to be a defensive minded team like they were last year. Honestly, I don't know where the scoring is going to come from.

Defensively Charlotte allowed 97.3 points per game, 49.9 rebounds per game, and 45.4% shooting from the field. I am anticipating for Charlotte to not change a whole lot from last year and on the defensive end where they were number one in the NBA in field goals attempted per game. They were also really good at keeping other teams off the board ranking second in opponent defensive rebounds per game.

Miami Heat
Last year offensively the heat average 94.7 points per game, 48 rebounds per game, and shot 45.6% from the field. They had a really rough year last year after the loss Chris bosh but it looks like they are due for another solid year. I think they have a nice combination this year with Goran Dragic playing with Chris Bosh which should provide some nice pick n rolls. With a healthy Dewayne Wade and an underrated Luol Deng this team has the makeup to make a strong playoff push, as well don't forget coming back from injury Hassan Whiteside.

Defensively Miami allowed 97.3 points per game, 52.5 rebounds per game, and 44% shooting from the field. They should still be pretty tough in the interior as they ranked second in the NBA at 38.5 points per game in the paint. Eric Spoelstra is a very good coach and up and down the stats last year they still ranked as one of the better teams on the defensive end in the NBA despite their key injuries. They know to win championships they have to play defense and I think they shut down Charlotte tonight.

The first couple weeks of the NBA are always fun with new storylines and new players on different teams. For this matchup I have a hard time thinking Charlotte and Miami are going to be running up and down the court putting up a lot of shots. For one of your NBA picks today I suggest backing under the total when these two meet tonight in Miami.
