The Los Angeles Lakers are one of the worst NBA picks in the league, and they’ll be dog-tired for Wednesday’s game against the Utah Jazz.

Jason’s 2018-19 NBA picks record through Mar. 25:
22-21-1 ATS, 0-4 ML (minus-9.35 units), 31-14 Totals

L.A. Fading the Los Angeles Lakers is about as easy as it comes; we zeroed in on this play at the beginning of the season, based on how overheated the betting market gets these days whenever LeBron James is involved. And now that the Lakers have fallen out of playoff contention, it’s even easier for us to kick them while they’re down – as we did for Friday’s 111-106 loss to the Brooklyn Nets (–2.5 away).

No reason to change horses with L.A. about to visit the Utah Jazz on Wednesday. The Jazz are a profitable small-market team who also happen to be on a roll right now at 7-1 SU and ATS in their last eight games. They’re also relatively healthy, and they’ll be rested for this matchup, while the injury-plagued Lakers will be playing on zero days of rest with some travel thrown in. It’s like being a three-legged man at a butt-kicking contest.

Caveat Emptor

Now that we’ve been unduly mean to the Lakers, a quick reminder: There are no dead-bolt locks on the NBA odds board. L.A. beat the Washington Wizards 124-106 Tuesday night as 2.5-point home faves, covering back-to-back games for the first time since February 2. It’s not like they’re not trying. Each of their five starters played at least 30 minutes, which should help our cause somewhat – although we’re a bit concerned that James (plus-8.0 BPM) and his tender groin might sit this one out. So are the oddsmakers, apparently, as we wait for the first lines to hit the board.

Maybe we should be delighted instead. James (23 points, 14 assists, seven rebounds) almost had a triple-double against Washington. And the Lakers fell apart at 6-11 SU and 7-9-1 ATS during that 17-game stretch while LeBron was on the injured list. But those poor results run counter to the idea that James is overvalued in the marketplace, and that L.A. have more betting value without King James on the court.

[/]{"component": "embedHTML", "code": "

... LeBron just airball a free throw? pic.twitter.com/bkpDU1tqLq
— Dime (@DimeUPROXX) 27 de março de 2019
\n"}[/]

Here’s another thing, though: The Lakers have a lot fewer established players to lean on now if James takes a maintenance day on Wednesday. Five of his teammates are on the shelf, and that’s after Lance Stephenson (minus-2.1 BPM) made his return on Sunday after missing 10 of the previous 11 games with an injured toe. There’s a point where the cupboard runs bare, and the Lakers may already be well past that point – which is why they’re having trouble beating the spread, with or without James in the lineup. Bet accordingly, and may the sphere be with you.
